Hi all,
Having trouble locating a leak in the coolant system. When I put fluid in the expansion tank, it begins to pour out onto the ground, from somewhere in the area between the firewall and the engine. I can't see from above due to the intake, and I can't see from below due to an abundance of stuff in the way. Will I need to remove the intake housing or something similar in order to get a better look back there? Is there any sort of write-up on what needs to be removed to access that area? Any help appreciated!

It might be the thermostat housing has a crack and leaking down on the transmission or near the rear of the engine:

Thank you for the information! It seems to be coming from what I believe is the coolant pipe that runs below the intake manifold, somewhere near the passenger side. If I'm following this right, there's an o-ring at the water pump that may have failed, or it could be the pump itself. Do I need to remove the intake manifold to determine which it is? I found this thread that sort of covers it, but nothing about intake removal.

As a bonus, I need to replace the turbo intake tube; I managed to break the plastic housing at the turbo end. Yay me.

I would say so, this is one of the items I had pointed out to check in my initial post on this thread that was removed last week.

If you end up needing one we have plenty of them on hand ready to ship!

Make sure that you have all of the broken plastic out of the waterpump housing before you put the new tube in.

 

Following up, I finally fixed this. And only broke a couple of other things in the process. At least now I'm leak free. Thanks for all the help!

 

Welcome, glad its fixed. Much better to have heat in the winter. Bleed it a couple times to get all the air out and you should be good to go.
