R55 Anti-freeze
Anti-freeze
I have a 2010 Clubbie S that I am get a faint whiff of antifreeze smell in the cabin in occasion. It usually comes after running at speed and then slowing down for a stoplight. Then it dissipates. There is not evidence of any leaks in the engine compartment. Nothing is dripping on the ground and the coolant level does not change in the tank. I did change the gaskets on the oil cooler/oil filter bracket which also has a portion of that bracket that has anti-freeze running through it. There are no leaks there. That was done 6 months ago and this has only been happening for the past 3 months. But I keep getting this faint smell. Anyone experience this scenario?

You might have a very slight leak somewhere that is evaporating before it is showing any signs of leakage on other parts in the engine or on your garage floor. It could be very slight that you do not notice a change in your coolant just yet. Keep an eye on it. I'd also be curious about your heater core. Check the area where it is under your dash and look for any signs of dampness inside the cabin and check the connections to it.

Heater cores and etc have a tendency to leak (they are not always made with the best quality). These nasty little bad-attitude creatures live inside the dashboard of most cars and are a frequent cause of smelling antifreeze in the car. I have never worked on the heater system in my R55 clubman, so I do not know exactly where their antifreeze components run, but I would look into the climate control heating system first. Everytime I have smelled a faint antifreeze in the cabin, it has been the result of a bad heater core. If it was more than a faint smell, I would expect the cause to be more serious, with a substantial leak in the engine bay. Nonetheless, a faint in cabin smell sounds like a heater core to me.
