My 2009 Clubman S came with the halogen non-projector housings and I've been looking to upgrade. Is anyone running aftermarket HID ballasts/bulbs or know if it causes bulb out warnings? I've replaced the parking lights and license plate lights with LED bulbs with canbus and they work great with no bulb out warnings.
You will need an error free bulb if you go to LED ( canbus ) or Xenon with resistor , for a car set up for Halogen. And projectors like below for Xenon or LED not to blind on coming.
I would go projector halogen and either choose halogen for no bulb out, or convert to xenon or LED with the spyder projector Xenon.
I know this doesnt answer your questions, but personally I wouldn't do it. Running HIDs in our reflector headlights is terrible. Scattered light with lots of black spots. Will blind other drivers and get less output on the road for you.

In my post I linked to the Spec-D projector housing I am looking to buy. I plan to put HID's in those to keep them legal and to help them function better.

So since my car is set up for halogen, if I swap to Xenon/HID bulbs and ballasts I will need the canbus version to prevent flickering and bulb out warnings?
