R55 Hose to nowhere?

Hose to nowhere?
I only noticed this by chance. Under the tall, slim air intake (before the airbox with the filter) there is a hose. It's black, maybe .5" diameter with a flared end. It's clipped to the transmission. After that, it goes NOWHERE. I don't think the end is plugged. What is this tube? I can't tell where it goes or where it came from but I wonder... is it some weird vent for something or an unconnected vacuum hose that's causing a very irritating idle issue...?

What is irritating about the idle, and are there any other symptoms?
