You need to buy a Bentley Service Manual. I would suspect the timing chain jumped timing due to chain guide failure. A common failure on the N14 engine. Have you pulled the head yet? You will need special tools to reinstall the head and put the crank and cams in the correct timing. There are several parts suppliers on this forum. ECS Tuning is very active.

Search the forums for timing chain or death rattle.

Sounds like the timing chain, its a bit of a job and also to make sure nothing else is damaged.

What year is it ? Clubman S ?

You def should get a bentley manual before taking it apart as there is a ton of good information in it on how to do it right.

But it may be more cost effective to just put a new engine in it depending on what is wrong with it. When we see timing chains broke we can put a complete engine in for just a little more than what it would cost to repair the head and still have an engine with XXXX miles on it.
