R55 Mirror Caps / Power Folding / Cap Removal

Does anyone have a good reference for removing the caps on an power folding mirror. Car came with checkered caps, would like to replace. I have seen varying methods.

not sure how different the powerfold caps are, but on my manual ones, I tilted the mirror glass to the extremes and was able to unclick the hooks of the caps by going in the mirror side. i did not feel comfortable prying the caps off from the back.

What's difference between the power and non-powered mirror caps anyway? Shape?

Simply pry them off - they'll come off easier than you think

I have the powerfold mirrors. It's the same for non-powerfold. Take a hard piece of plastic (i had a decal squeegee) and stick it in the mirror cap where it meets the actual mirror housing (outside edge, away from window). Once you pry enough to get your finger in, start going around the cap towards the inside (toward window) to pry more of it up. Before you're even at the inside edge, the cap should pop off by itself. If you're scared of dropping the cap while prying, put a towel underneath on the floor. Once you get the first one off, you'll be able to see how the clips hook on and the 2nd one will be easy. Snapping them back on is even easier.

This is the thread i used to replace mine:

Replacing mirror glass...

So I was sideswiped and my mirror housing was damaged. Luckily, cap is fine. Have ordered replacement housing but it doesn't include the actual glass mirror. Does anyone know how to remove the mirror?
Thanks!

Very helpful, Slimjimtell. Now do you have any advice as to how to remove and replace the actual mirror glass itself? I was sideswiped by a bus in Boston. Housing was damaged but cap and glass are OK. I've ordered a new housing but it doesn't come with the glass!
