Got mine installed last week after nearly a month
Hi,
I too was a victim of this backorder problem. Mine was in the shop for nearly a month waiting for the part; luckily, the dealer gave me a loaner for the time so it worked well that way. The service guy did mention that BMW in Germany was having a major issue with shipping.
I picked my baby up on Monday and so far she's running good!

Lately, I keep hearing more and more bad news about things like parts and REALLY bad customer service. This has convinced me to never buy MINI or BMW again - ever. My car is under an extended warranty to the end of this year and now I'm REALLY nervous even though it was an almost trouble-free year. It makes me wonder if it would have been better had something major gone wrong this year because I'd get an idea of any patterns to watch out for regarding potential problems.

BMW have got a new stock control system for their spare parts distribution, including Mini. What I've been told is that they failed to correctly upload the existing stock level data so what's on the shelves and what's in the system don't agree. It's a bit like failing Stock Control 101, I guess.
It will get sorted, though it is taking a lot of time - but then how many line items do they have? You can't tell a couple of guys to go and count them all, can you?

I consider myself very lucky on all counts! I got the thermostat in under 3 weeks and paid $96 (online with NAM member discount) plus tax at Sewell and drove over and picked it up. It was for my son's car and we found an excellent shop in Austin who installed it, with fluid,s for $174.16. A friend going that way delivered it to him, so zero shipping cost. On the road for under $280. However.....I did buy him a ScanGauge II in the meantime so he could tell if he was overheating the sucker before it cooked. He wasn't losing coolant at any time, just setting codes. Hang in there!

I don't know why I only now just got a notice of replies to the thread. Weird.
I got my part about a week ago from MINI in Bedford NH. Now I am trying to find instructions specific to the R55 S, as the step by step instructions I have found are for older models. If nothing else, i will fumble my way through it.
I have to do the Valve cover gasket as well, so I will be busy for awhile.
Once this thing is up and running, it is time to trade it in for a dependable car. This thing is cute, fun and all of that, but a complete flop on dependability and quality. These cars are having problems you shouldn't see in a car for at least 150K miles, and they have them by the bunches at less than 50K. I think the old MGB GT was more dependable. So sad. Time for a second Volvo in the family. So, anybody want to by an S Clubman???

I am new to the forum just looking for a thread I saw somewhere with pictures and instructions on replacing one of these stats, just wanted to let you know I purchased a new stat for my 2007 MC S yesterday from a dealer in Richmond Virginia I didn't ask how many he had but I believe he told me he had some.

Yup, they seem to be pretty available now.
I installed mine yesterday. Pretty big job on the 08 S Clubman. Bigger than I had anticipated. Doable, if you have moderate mechanical ability. I have a cable hose clamp tool from Sears ($45 +/-) and worth every penny. Would not attempt the job without.
I have the Bentley Book on the MINI. Absolutely worthless! Likely the worst mechanics pub I have ever seen in my life. I have YET to have it actually be useful on any project. I ended up not using it. . .as usual. Nice picture! That is about it.
The thread I found was on a 2006, or maybe an R56. I don't recall. It will get you in the ball park. I had to do the valve cover gasket as well, so it was a pretty full day.
Ah, here is the link.https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...hermostat.html
Yup, R56.
Good luck. Oh yeah, the tube that the thermostat connects to on back of the engine (the big tube) has a wire clip that holds it in place. Just grasp the loop and pull directly off the tube. It is a "C" shaped clip. FUN! Enjoy the project.

Thanks for the info, my stat came in today, I already had the old one off, it only took me about 15 minutes to put the little hose on the bottom left and the big one in the back and bolt it up before I had to stop and take my daughter to soccer practice, will finish tomorrow, one other thing I called a MINI tech. and asked about the torque spec and he told me 16NM or something then he said that would be 11.8 ft pounds I thought I saw somewhere on here 71 inch pounds do you know which it is? I already torqued it 12 ft pounds if it messes my new stat up I wont be happy!
