How to Adjust Ambient Lighting? Help

I have a 2010 MCS Clubman and the ambient lighting is a standard feature included with my model, but no matter what I do I cannot get the ambient light color to change. Even after examining the owner's manual and trying every light switch, nothing seems to affect the ambient lighting. Since most of you have been successful in changing ambient lighting, could you please tell me exactly how to do this and which switch is used--the manual indicates there is something between the lighting toggle switches, but I'll be darned if I can find anything. Does the car actually have to be running? I have the key in and the start button is on, but no ambient lighting.

Thanks in advance for any assistance, and please excuse my stupidity if I am completely incompetent on this topic.

Toggle the 2nd switch from the right on the overhead switches.
They only light up when the headlights are on.
