R55 Sun/Moon Roof issues?

For all those who have / will have sunroof issues I found this step-by-step DIY for fixing it. It has a lot of pictures for those with ADHD and just want to do it but not care about understanding what they they did.

Also, if anyone has had side window problems (like DKamp) and has taken their side door apart, they have most likely dropped the window motor and cleaned the motor assembly. The same styles of electric motor components are found in the sunroof motor. So familiarization makes this an easy (albeit long process) to fix. Maybe takes about half a day?

Also of note:The instructions are for a Gen 1 (2003 to be exact) car not a Gen 2 and the motors and physical operation are much different.
Also on the Gen 2 cars the door window motors are different from 2007 to 2008/9. 2008/9 motors can not be put in a 2007 car.
I have a BRG 2008 Clubman with a matching BRG roof. I took my Clubman in this week with the stuck-on-hot-day issue, and they wrote the following in my paperwork:
PERFORM SUNROOF UPDATE AS OUTLINED IN BULLETIN #540308
There's also mention of a "Fillister Head Screw: 519510"
I just got my Mini back today, so I haven't tested it yet. Hopefully this will fix it.
For me, btw, the workaround was to just keep toggling the switch back and forth on hot days until it got unstuck.
I did a search on that bulletin and got nothing back. Better luck to you...

I have had this fix, and I believe, as I outlined above, my problem is actually worse after this fix. I have re-initialized the sunroof several times for good measure, but have yet to park in full sun for any length of time recently, and it's been cold here at home (high 50's today). I'll be in the Central Valley next week, when temps hit 100+ (103 on Monday) so I'll test it then..not very hopeful.
Took my Clubman in for 18,000 (1 year service), which included the fix for the sunroof. I have had the sunroof problem ( the rear sunroof would be tilted at venting) for over 6 months
. I waited for the service so that I could make just one trip. It so happens the day before taking in for service, the entire sunroof malfunction (coincidence or Karma???). The malfunction resulted in the total inability to close the sunroof completely leaving it slightly askew..the dealer ended up replacing the whole unit rather than "fix" the adjustment. They replaced: Drive Unit for Sunroof, Frame Panoramic Roof, Blind for Sunroof. Indicated problem was: SUNROOF NOT CLOSING PROPERLY, SUN ROOF CABLES BINDING CAUSING MOTOR TO SHORT REPLACED SUNROOF CASSETTE AND MOTOR.
So far so good, all roofs vent as expected (even though I lost the one-step-vent ability
, not worried). Also noticed that the little screen that pops up when the roof is opened is gone, I think that was an oversight...not worried about it.
Other than that I can attest that the MiniAnnapolis did a quick fix and a professional job. They called me the next day to let me know that car would be available on Monday, July 6 (I took it in on July 1st!). It seems that they are getting their act together..

Those interested in part numbers:
54-10-3-448-675 DRIVE UNIT FOR SUNROOF: 676010
54-10-2-758-294 FRAME PANORAMIC ROOF: 541040
54-10-2-755-849 BLIND FOR SUNROOF, REAR: 543010
Also had Oil and Filter Change:
11-42-7-557-012 SET OIL-FILTER ELEMENT: 114010
07-51-0-017-866 OIL 5W30 SYNTHETIC: 832511
83-12-0-405-186 WINDSHIELD WASHER ANTIFREEZE: 831510 (this is interesting since I had just added almost 1 gallon of RainX washer fluid two days before going in!??)
64-31-9-127-516 MICROFILTER/ACTIVATED CARBON: 643010
Last page of service report states that - DIAGNOSTIC OF THE SUNROOF NOT OPENING, THE TECH FOUND THAT THE SUNROOF NOT OPENING ISSUE HAS CAUSED THE SUNSHADE TO BECOME INOPERABLE (guess that is why the rear shade was replaced.)

In an additional note - I have now had the new sunroof in for about a month and it operates perfectly. I have noticed that the loud thrashing sound (when closing) that was present with the old roof has completely gone away. Interestingly I do NOT have the ability to "one touch" vent as I did in the past...I guess that is no longer programmed in?
Very quite open and close - seems smoother.....no more stuck edges...temps have been 80's with high humidity - "summer has finally arrived"!

Great, mine is messed up! I just went out (1 PM, 90 degrees) to open up, this is the third time it started, but got "stuck". I pushed up, it went back, but now it won't close! Tried the switch half-way, no luck. It sounds okay, moves okay like lube isn't the problem. I'm guessing a position switch or computer problem. Good thing it doesn't rain in AZ.
Okay, this is bizarre! It's 3:43 PM, just went out to try again, this time the door was closed (earlier it was open). It works now! Why would the noon sun overhead make a difference? Was it because the door was open?
