Windshield ice

Forgive the dumb question, but I'm getting a lot of ice buildup on the INSIDE windshield after I park in the commuter lot all day.

We've had a lot of snow, and there is water on the rubber floor mats that's not evaporating (standing). Not a lot, but some.

The Clubman sits in a lot all day. The temps outside have been bitterly cold. When I get into the Clubman at the end of the day there is a LOT of thick frost on the inside windshield as soon as I arrive. It's not because I breathed on it for a while; it's already there.

I have noticed some wind noise around the window gasket, so I'm not sure if it's sealed completely.

I've never had this happen in another vehicle (this is my first winter with the Clubman, obviously).

Is this due to the standing water on the all-winter mats? Or the window seals, or something else?

FYI, the only way to get rid of this is to sit in the car for quite a while and let the defroster do it's thing. Scraping gets ice all over the dash and instruments....

Thanks!

This is actually a very common problem in many cars that are not driven of long periods of time to dry them out.

One thing you may want to do i make sure that the Recirculate Air is not turned on. With the recirculate on all the humidity in the air just gets recirculated and by you breathing it just makes it worse.

When turning off the Recirculate Air the humid air will be expelled by the dryer incoming air.

One other help is to turn the A/C on as this will help dry the humid air as well.

These should reduce the problem.

If your commute is a short one then the problem may still may also not have time to correct itself.

Are you sure it is only from the windshield? You might have a leak.

Did this problem build up over time or did it occur right from the start?

I agree that the most likely is a short drive. FYI, that is the most stressful for you car as well. Everything is just getting warmed up when you stop and it cools off again. In the old days it meant exhaust systems would eat themselves up in short order.

I had this issue on my 2006 Cooper the other day...It was sitting in the parking lot at work after I drove quite a while in the morning but the windscreen ended up still frosting over. I took a squeege to the inside of the windows and then some kleenex to clean up the smudges after. I took some rain-ex to it and havent had an issue since...
Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that with the sun making the inside of the car hot the water from the mats gets evaporated then condenses on the dust on your window. Do you have winter mats? Cuz im sure thats what caused it for me.

Sorry; not sure I follow these....

The front windshield is pretty bad, but I saw some on the side windows too.

From the start of what?

Also:
Yes, I have the rubber floor mats that traps water. I'll try to wipe them down at night to see if that helps (or in the morning once it's standing water).

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Opening your windows an inch or so as your motoring will help get humidity out of the cabin. If wind noise is an issue, turn up both the heater fan, and the music
