Buzzcut, my old turf as well, actually did my elementary school at Canyon School at the bottom of those stairs. SanVicente is one of my favorite areas as well. But growing up in Santa Monica canyon and surfing State beach,Topanga and the jetties was a blessed life. What an area and what times.. Palisades High,Class of 1973..Go Dolphins..

LOL My parents owned the Sorrento Beach Grill. Spent my time Surfing and Scuba Diving off Trancas, County Line, Palos Verdes... hmmn canyon school. I had a house on the corner of Dryad and east Channel, just across from the "bad guys house" in Beverly hills cop and down the street from the famous canyon pool of Dog Town Skateboard Fame
Roof Racks from Mini
I had racks installed at the dealer when I bought mine in June 2008, they are OEM Mini and you can take them off and on. I have had 2 kayaks on top of them without any problem and then you can take them completely off of the car, the side bars create wind noise and the sunroofs are noisy. (or is it just me?) I can't figure out how to attach the phot but it's in my gallery.
If Mini would have installed a sliding sunroof cover like everyother car mfg the wind noise would be a non-issue. That is one thing I don't like; the noise and the sunlight glare can be bad at times. Go figure, you get sun shades in front and on the side but they leave the top open.

yeah it's an older set of Thule racks with the square cross bars.
as for noise all my cars have the same rack set up so I really don't notice it. The is some wind noise but you can lessen it if you add a fairing, still it's not loud enough to bug me.
hwy 33 is a blast

Good to hear everything worked out - awesome color choice BTW!
JoelP,
Nice car. BTW, I just travelled from Ventura back to the bay area (not the East Bay--rather the Peninsula) via Highway 33 and Highway 58 over to 101. What a great drive. I recommend it to others in the area, for the twisties.
