Hey, if things don't work out between you and your husband...It might be nice to drive with someone who isn't yelling at me.

Actually, I think my wife likes this little malfunction. It means I have to be chivalrous now and walk over to her side with the keyfob and unlock her door just like the old days when we were dating.

And yes, if she's on the passenger side, both doors will unlock even though she's programmed driver's door only - odd.
Thanks for pointing that out...I forget about all the many programming options that they give you!!!

We talked about it back when I was setting it up, and I set my fob to unlock driver's door only for the same precautionary reasons as your wife. Safety first!!!

This really works. I forgot that I left my key in my jacket the one day and it had gotten warm so I went to leave and couldnt figure out for a moment why the car wouldnt lock. Went for the key in my bag and realized it was in my coat. Glad it has that feature or I would be in trouble.

only try this if you have the convenience package, i'm not responsible if you do it without the package and you lock your keys inside the car.
I tried it. It does NOT work!! I made sure the second set of keys was in the kitchen. I locked the doors and tossed the keys behind the driver's seat and closed the driver's side door. I pushed the unlock button on the door. It didn't work. I tried the passenger door. It didn't work. I unlocked it with the second set of keys, tossed it in the back seat and put the first set in the kitchen. Again, it didn't work.

DO NOT forget your keys when you leave your car!! You WILL be locked out!!

The key is not to use the lock button in the car...only use the one on the door handle. If the key is inside the car, the lock button on the handle WON'T work. That's how you are protected from locking yourself out.

What happens if...

Aaaaargh! I can't believe my key fob just went through the wash. I tried to use the buttons on my car - and they don't work. However, the proximity features do. Will it ever dry out and work 100% again, or am I all washed up! (Can't believe I said that!) Ray

It looks like your MINI dealer's gonna "Clean up" when you have to order that $300 replacement key! Don't worry, the "Tide" will turn. It'll all come out in the "wash". Sorry for being so "Bold". This is defintely not "fobulous" news for you.

Did you try swapping the batteries from your second unit to the malfunctioning one? I'd try that before spending all kinds of money on a new fob. Talk about "money laundering"!

Try putting it into a container with one of those dehumidifier pouch things. I've also heard you can use rice. It draws the moisture out.
