Wow this is great news -- I was just test driving a MCCs the other day which will probably replace my MZ3 someday. I noticed the large empty well in the back and wondered if this was possible. I was really not looking forward to runflats and no spare, so I'm really glad this is an option, even though changing an alloy to the front to put the spare on the back would be a big hassle.

Now i just have to decide if the extra power in the S is worth the $$$ and this just took away a big argument for getting the non-s.

In one word "YES" it is worth the extra $ for the S. I have had my '09 Clubman S , lightning blue & black for almost three weeks now and am very happy with the car...push the Sport button and try not to have a smile ear to ear.

Agreed. We are "S". Resistance is futile!

Was driving my wife's MC when we stopped by the dealer. Oddly I didn't notice a huge difference in the lower gears as I find the non-s plenty fast in 2nd, but the torque in 4th and 5th was

I bought my Cobalt tire for $25. I checked it on the rear of my Clubman S, and it works fine. It will not work on the front. The offset is either the same as stock MINI, or very close, as I measure it. You can use a plain bolt to hold it down if you can find a large spacer, but the holddown pieces are cheap enough from MINI that that is probably the best way to go. I did not buy the MINI foam to go in the wheel for the jack, etc, as I have a small tool box that I put in there. I hope I never use it, but it feels good to not have to rely on run-flats, and I will not buy them again, as they are quite expensive.

Where are you sourcing your Chevy Cobalt donut spare from? $25.00 seems like a really good price.

I just went to my local junkyard here in the Commonwealth. They had two. I expect they do not sell a lot, and are glad to get something. I see a post above where he paid $35.

I'm happy to report that even though I have the bridgespokes with runflats, i do indeed have a spare under the tool kit in my boot.

Update: After 3 flat tires in a year, I'm really happy about having that spare tire back there

Be sure to check the pressure when you first get it from the dealer - mine was set really low.

I drove all over Texas, no problem with tires, then moved to VA and even had the car shipped!! Two days in town and BAM the TPMS turned on. A frigging nail!

Thanks to mrdirosa!
Sent his parts list to my local dealership, Monrovia MINI in SoCal and to his guy, Will at Morristown MINI, in NJ.
My local guy's first quote didn't include the wheel (wtf?)
Will's quote was $275 ($100 cheaper), including shipping!
Got everything in about a week.
I now feel more comfortable getting rid of the run-flats.

Someone help me out here. Why won't the spare fit on the front of an S model? The stock wheels are all the same with similar offsets? Not getting this yet, but I may just be dense.

Discovered the foam, with the jack and other tools in my non-spare tire well. Just like Christmas

The spare tire won't fit on the front of the Gen 2 - R56/55/57 Cooper S (S models only) because these models have a larger front rotors, causing the calipers to rub against the spare tire wheel. For these cars, we recommend you put the spare on the rear if you have a flat in front.

For Gen 1 R50/52/53 Cooper and S (and Gen 2 Cooper) - the spare will fit in the front and rear.

If you have the factory limited slip on your Gen 1 MINI, it's a good idea to put the spare on the rear as well.

Cheers,
Ken

Thank you. So it is the design of the spare tire wheel with inadequate offset for the front? Guess this is why they decided to dump the spare, no need to make 2 wheels each with unique offset.

Since I have dumped the runflats, I am banking on my Mini mobility kit with tire sealant and an air pump.

Do the 2010 Justas not have the spare? My 2009 has one, and it will fit front or rear (although the idea of that little donut being in charge of putting power to the ground is kinda disturbing).

Gen 2 Cooper (non-S) - the spare will fit in the front and rear.

This includes R56 Hatchback Cooper (non-S), R55 CLUBMAN Cooper (non-S), and R57 Convertible Cooper (non-S).

I just received my spare and the related accessories from Morristown MINI, and I am really pleased. The service was great, the price was good, and the shipping charges were reasonable. It was delivered in 5 days.
