I don't have a quote yet on the extended warranty but plan to call tomorrow for one.
I believe they do offer the extended service maintenance on or about the 36K miles expires. Usually, the SA will offer this before the current maintenance expires but the price might be higher than getting it a the time of purchase the new car.

I purchased the extended maintenance for my BMW right about the 36K miles and it was worth it considered that we kept the car much longer. It is now at 130K miles and we have had brakes replaced, rotor replaced, radiator flush, oil changed, system service, fuel injector cleaning service, moon roof repaired, door noises, wiper blades, and the list goes on...

IMO, the extended service maintenance and the extended warranty was worth it for us to maintain the car all the way to 100K miles and all done by the dealer.

The contract is pretty much the same with MINI and I hope they honor it the same way as BWM. I had great services during that time with the BMW extended service maintenance.

If you want all the work done by the dealer with all the OEM parts to carry you up to 100K miles and both the extended maintenance and extended warranty is worth while. Even at $2000 for the next three years is about $55 /mo to consider coverage for your maintenance.

You can negotiate the price now or wait until your car reaches 36K Miles and consider to purchase it at time.

Thank you for posting your experience.
We want to keep our car for at least 100K miles.
I am not a mechanic and am unlikely to learn how to work on my car.
I don't even change the oil myself.

I realize that the people posting problems here are a disproportionate sample of owners. Still, a pattern of particular problems seem to be cropping up with the N14 engine as these cars age. I don't know if these problems are a matter of "when" rather than "if." The list of problems that concern me are timing/tensioner chain, turbo failure, carbon build up, and the controversy over the long oil change intervals recommended by BMW/MINI. That said, my car runs great and has not had any problems to date.

It helps that I am more than satisfied with our dealership's service.
Of course MINI is making a profit off of these warranties or they wouldn't sell them. That doesn't bother me in the least.
Even if I don't "get my money back" on the investment in the warranties, the peace of mind is priceless.

Also, my husband will start patching little things with duct tape vs paying to fix them properly.
That's just not going to happen to this car!

I got my extended service contract recently (through Desert Mini as well). My standard service contract ended last October and on my last visit I was looking at about $450 in standard service costs. Then I saw my scheduled forecast of services that will need to be done in the next year, and since I will need new brakes+rotors, and knowing they are incredibly expensive through Mini, I opted to just "renew" my service contract. He gave me the "discounted" rate for the early renewal, and by all accounts, you should be able to negotiate that price as well. I think it is a couple hundred bucks less than what you were quoted.
