tempered vs safety

Windshields are 2 pieces of tempered safety glass with a clear plastic sheet sandwiched inbetween. ALL other auto glass is required to be safety (tempered) glass. When it breaks it crumbles into small pieces to keep from cutting you.

Residential glass is usually just normal glass panes (no tempering). Commercial glass is tempered.

REGARDLESS of the type of glass it can be tinted without fear of shattering due to heat. Don't know where this rediculous myth started.

Consider this. The side windows of your mini are just as hot as the sunroof. Why aren't the windows shattering?

There seem to be numerous first-hand accounts of exploding sunroofs on Bimmerfest. They involve no Minis but do include diverse BMW models. In one thread there are pictures of a BMW in Canada with an exploded sunroof (BMWNA denied the warranty claim). Whether or not it's related to tinting, I can't believe that it's not possible (sunroofs exploding) in Minis.

OP is asking about a hypothetical warranty claim. IMO when warranty coverage is in question and is remotely connected to aftermarket products BMW/MINI is going to deny the claim.

Why not go to the source ?

MADICO makes five of the best-selling window tinting products in the US. Two of the most popular are Charcool and Onyx.

How about asking the manufacturer of the tint material instead of guessing or relying on second-hand accounts found in enthusiast forums.

Here's their Contact Us info:
