Clubman S - Canada - TPMS in wheel or not?

Seems no one has been able to help us with a straight definitive answer... our Clubman S came with Sports package, so it has the 17" wheels which have rubber valve stems, not metal ones.

My question is this, we are wanting to put after market wheels on it, is the TPMS direct - meaning they sit in the wheels, or is it indirect like previous mini found in the ABS?

Rubber valve stems to me would indicate we have the TPM sensors in the the ABS like previous minis. However, posts here seem to say they are in the wheels. All the information I have found regarding this says you have to use metal valve stems when using in-tire TPM sensors. This is of course unless the sensors are strapped on inside the wheels, which does not seem like a BMW way of doing things.

I have said Canada because in Canada it is not mandatory yet, unlike in USA.

Comments are appreciated... thanks.

Shaun.

Hey Shaun - a fellow Canuck here...

My understanding is that the '08 Canadian cars are still using the indirect or passive system. So, the good news is you can switch to aftermarket wheels easily.

Can't wait to see you car!! Mine's a June build but probably held up by the strike :(

I just got off the phone with a hoser, er, Canadian.
She said TPMS isn't mandatory in Canada, yet.
Something about 25 below freezing sensors and when was I going to visit her, etc. At 25 below, the tire is a frozen block!

What's a Canadian dealer say?
