Do it. I regret not buying it every time I look at the roof of my car.

I just picked up a clubman without the sunroof. My daughter has an S Coupe and I definitely don't like the mesh screen which always lets in a large amount of light. But she loves it and wouldn't own a car without it. Different strokes!

I would do without the sun roof, but my wife really wants one. We live near Dallas, so I may end up getting it tinted.

We definitely like the sunroof, even in sunny Florida! Don't know why MINI chose to offer only a mesh shade instead of a solid cover (clearly a mistake), but our plan is to tint it either 20% or 5% - any suggestions as to which is better up there? Has anyone experienced/heard of the sunroof cracking due to heat build-up as a result of tinting (as we've been told)?

BTW, we find it equally unusual that we're not allowed to order factory darkened glass stateside, as is available in Europe.

I think I'm of the reverse persuasion. Before FL we lived in AZ and maybe used the sunroof 1x every 2 weeks or so - that frequency hasn't changed. My thoughts on it are as follows:

- adds unnecessary weight
- lets in more heat
- takes away headroom
- more stuff to squeak/break
- more $$ up front

I know there are many upsides and that my kids (3 & 5) will miss the occasional presidential ride in the subdivision but that brings up another minus

- source of dirty footprints on armrest

I've had the sunroofs tinted on all three of the MINI's that we've owned, and loved it. We've had Solar Solutions (up in the DC area) do it for us and had no problems with it. I would definitely recommend the 5%, as it still let's you appreciate having the sunroof without feeling like you're in a fishbowl. I spend about 4-5 hours behind the wheel every day and the tint does it for me

yeah, I started a thread on the General MINI Talk forum...do a search of 'opaque sunroof screen' I haven't tried to install it in an 07-08 but I think it would not fit as it looks like there is less of a space between the mesh screen's frame and the glass in the 07-08 model compared to the 02-06 model. Can anyone confirm this? Also I would have to redesign the clips as the front frame bar of the mesh is diff in the 07-08 model. But it works great in my '04 tho.

It seems like this is an issue that BMW/MINI should address...maybe BMW/MINI should read this and contact me (hint hint) to adapt my idea to the 07-08 models

Thanks for the recommendation; I was a little afraid it might be too dark. I suffer from severe migraines at times, thus the glare and intense heat are triggers that make them much worse. (We also wouldn't want to do anything which might void the warranty.)

My solution was to cut out silvered relecting covers from an old windshield screen and insert them between mesh and glass. Also, tilting the sun roof lets hot air out of car during the day and keeps it much cooler.

I thought about this one hard and after having experienced a recent leaky sunroof I decided to go without the sunroof. I haven't missed it.

If I did get a sunroof I would probably go with a white roof and apply white vinyl. My old BMW had a metal sunroof and I still think that is the way to go.

cost, loss of rigidity, added weight (in the highest area possible), maintainence (when the car gets older), too hot during the day, too noisy.... not for me, but whatever floats your boat.....

I like the sunroof on my 2003 MCS. I live in Syracuse, NY where we have little sun but I feel the car feels roomier with the sunroof. The mesh screen is terrible and the sunroof is noisy when it is opened fully. Also, I just spent $1800 on the car because the sunroof drains plugged up and water collected inside the car under the carpet. It froze and corroded my electrical connections! The car would not start and I had to be towed in. I miht reconsider a sunroof in another MC.

This thread reminds me of the practically last minute decision I made to add the sun roof after I had already placed my order, it was at that point that I was actually glad I had such a long wait time for my order to go through (it's NW thing) I had not even considered a sun roof until I happened upon a similar thread and I read up on the pros and cons. So far mine has absolutely no problems at all. For me it is now a must have option. It's perfect here in the winter time. When it's overcast and gray out, it lets in extra light. It gives the car a more open feeling on the inside. In the NW summer what's not to like about it?

they are fun at first then you never use them, same thing with T tops in the day. I looked for new one without any cuts in the roof.

I've had cars with a sunroof for going on 12 years, and I must say I'm the opposite, because I use them all of the time.

T-tops are a different beast. You had to take them off, heft them to where they were stowed, stow them properly (and then the reverse if you had to put them back on) before you were on your way. A definite pain if you were in a hurry, or had anything in the trunk blocking their storage space, they were definitely cool to start, but they ended up unused 90% of the time I had that car.

I drive windows down and roof open everyday here in SWFL. I love it and am very happy I have it. My sunroof is also tinted and I like the shade.

Love my sunroof, and I live in sunny year round southern Arizona. True, the roof glass is tinted and there is a "checker" pattern of vinyl stickers on the roof which does cut a lot of the direct sun coming in. As for parking, I lucked out and found the exact sun shade size at Pep Boys to pop up in there. Maybe your autoparts stores are not stocked as well, but sunshades are a big deal around here and most offer at least 40 sizes/styles. Days at this time of year are made for opening the roof and side windows for a cruise. Yeah, it is just slightly noisier than a hard top even when closed, but I turn up the stereo. But leaks? No, when is it going to rain here?

I wouldn't own a Mini with out a sun roof... Especially here in Southern California.... This is my third Mini. And all have had sun roofs. Just my 3 cents.

My wife has had no issues with her 2011 R56 or her 2013 Clubman's sunroof.

I agree a MINI without a sunroof would kinda strange.

I personally like my sunroof much better.

In fact even with it down while its snowing there are no leaks....
