Roof replace lately?

Anyone get their roof replaced lately because of the roof ware? Got my 2nd scheduled maintence coming up in about 5000 miles and thinking of telling the dealership to replace it, its been replaced once but the white marks are back.

I had a rattle in the roof frame on my 2005 MCSCa. I lived with the rattle for about 6 months before I decided to bring it to the dealer's attention.

The rattle came only when the top was closed and was located above and to the left of the driver's left ear - up where the windows meets the weather stripping. In fact, if I squeezed the metal components together hard, the rattle went away.

I mentioned it to the SA at MINI of Honolulu and he took the car, called me up and said it was not repairable and would be replaced. Not the fabric part of the roof, but the entire metal subframe. To give this dealership some accolades....they INSISTED on a loaner (I didn't need one!) and delivered it to my house. WONDERFUL service and the replacement roof is rattle-free.

hmmm

I actually have that same issue, but its on the drivers side front window, only happens when the window is up. I've asked the dealer to look at it 3 times, each time they say nothing is wrong.

I had my top replaced mid-November due to wear above the back side windows. Gromit was just over 1 yr old at the time and it was the original top.

I mentioned the wear at the first service visit, just to get it noted because it wasn't too bad yet. They looked at it and called a few days later to let me know they would be replacing it.

I called my MA in Boston the other day for the roof wear issue. He said that he was authorized to replace each customer's roof ONLY ONCE. After that, we would have to cover the cost ourselves.

Makes me wonder why MINI is admitting fault for the problem, but not for the life of the car? If it's a defect in design or manufacture, why wouldn't they stand behind it forever? If we were driving around with holes in the floor of the car because of rust 1 year in, we would be screaming a lot louder.

hmmm

I think if you yell and scream enough they will replace it for free. Its a known defect for the 05 and some 06's.

any idea

how did they fix it in the unaffected 06's? ours has a thick piece of black plastic between the canvas and the metal infrastructure of the top in the same spot as the wear marks. i assumed that if they replaced the top, it would just happen again.

Had my second roof replaced two months ago. No dreaded white spots yet. Looks like they finally have the fix.

I just got my cabrio on friday. Haven't had mine long enough to show any wear in the top, but where exactly on the canvas have you all been experiencing the "white spots"? Just want to know what to keep my eyes peeled for.

I just had my top replaced. It looks alot better now, but only time will tell.

However, the lip of the top now sits back further away from the top of the windshield (black top part that antenna sits on) when closed and extreme whistling occurs at speeds over 50 mph. I'll be taking it back to the dealer for adjustment eventually, but it's very inconvienent for me. I know of another in a local MINI club I'm in who is on their third top and wear signs are already appearing again. I believe this situation of them repeatedly replacing the top is just a "band-aid" for you until you run out of warranty.

i was told that the replacement had to be completed within the 4 year warranty period. but that each top was also warranteed for the full 2 years after that, just as with any other part. so looks like you can get at least 6 years out of them, depending on when it's replaced the first time.
