R52 Fit side skirts from a hardtop on a cabrio?
Fit side skirts from a hardtop on a cabrio?
I noticed that the hardtop and convertible have different part numbers for side skirts. This is true for both standard and aero versions of side skirts. My question is whether a hardtop side skirt can be fitted on a cabrio. My speculation is that frame reinforcements on the cabrio may have changed mounting points for the side skirts.
The reason I'm asking is that I'm considering aftermarket aero side skirts that are meant for the hardtop. If there is only a minor difference in the cabrio that could be worked around, I might be willing to give it a try.

I installed aero side skirts on my '06 cabrio with ones originally purchased for a hardtop. Fit fine. You either have to remove a couple of bolts on the underbrace to slide the skirt on (there is a hole in the skirt for this) or just cut a slit in the skirt whre it attaches under the frame (doesn't show) to go around the brace. Hard to explain but you will se what I am talking about when installing. For some reason, the small black grills for the side skirts must be purchased separately, so don't foget to get a pair of them also.
Thanks, that's exactly the information I was looking for. I am considering a set of aftermaket side skirts that are originally designed for the hardtop. So it seems that they should fit a cabrio with some trimming, and I'll decide between these or the OEM aero side skirts. I don't plan to change my bumpers, and this aftermarket version may match the look of the stock bumpers better than the sharp, angular lines of the OEM aero side skirts. The price is good too (149 euros a set), but I haven't gotten a quote for shipping from Germany.

FWIW - I put stock MCS coupe sideskirts on my wife's MCC last December. The mounting was identical except there is a 1-1/2 - 2 inch hole that was cut in the bottom side for the attachment point of the cross brace. The hole position was relatively easy to locate and cutout with a hole saw (drill).

. I'll probably end up with the OEM aero side skirts.
