Rear view mirror replacement

Hi, I’m new to the forum after a long hiatus. I just picked up an 07 MCS convertible. The manual rear view mirror day/night adjustment **** is missing and I’d like to fix it. Finding it hard to locate a good, used mirror. I believe the part number is 51169134379. I’ve not taken it down yet as it’s at the shop having some work done but I’m curious what my options are. Did mini happen to run the wiring for the auto dimming mirror because I can’t locate one of those. New mirrors appear to be back ordered or more money than I want to spend. Let me know if you have any ideas.

I’m not sure about the convertible, but I can tell you that Mini did run the wiring for the auto dimming mirrors in manual mirror R50s in 2006 because I swapped my manual mirror for an auto dimming one a few years ago.

I replaced the mirror that came on my 2006 R52S (I don't remember what type it was) with an auto-dimming mirror with Homelink. It plugged right in and worked fine.

When i did mine i had to swap out the key fob receiver board on the interior of the actual autodim mirror (used unit). Otherwise my lock/unlock door would not function on my 2005 MINI convertible. Maybe the used one i had was bad on that part.

Subbed to this thread since I had a 20+ year old liftmaster opener replaced this week. Now my 20 year old mini won't talk to my new garage door opener. I believe I need to upgrade from homelink 3.0 to homelink 4.0

I'm considering a mirror swap. Does the rain sensing wiper option make it any harder?
I've started searching for bmw part numbers mentioned in this thread:

I decided to go for the Wolfbox G930 and am in the process of installing it. https://wolfbox.com/products/wolfbox...8a8ee2fc&_ss=r

it’s the same width as the OEM though not as aesthetically pleasing. I was able to use Wolfbox’s oem bracket socket to attach to the ball and mount from my oem mirror. I just dipped the ball in black plastidip four times to build it up to fit tightly into the socket. I mounted the camera using the license plate mount today and look to finish running power and the GPS sensor tomorrow.

I use their 900Pro in my Bronco and love it. The 930 doesn’t have as good a camera as the 900Pro but it’s got to be better than barely seeing anything because of the roll bars/headrests and it should help with the blind spot when the top is up.

Update: the Wolfbox is available with three options to power it. One is an OBD connector. That didn’t work for me as the OBD initially powered up the mirror but did not stay powered. The second is through add-fuse to the fuse box. It uses a ground wire, a B+ wire and a ACC wire. For whatever reason the mirror would not power up or down when turning on the ignition but would only power up by the power button on the bottom of the mirror. My Bronco is wired that way and I had no problem. The third power option is a cigarette lighter plug. I’d converted my console plug to usb so I got a 12’ female to male to reach the socket in the trunk. The cigarette lighter method won’t support the security feature but, oh well, I have t needed it in my Bronco.

For the gps sensor, I affixed it to the inside of the trim to the left of the mirror and map light and it appears to be picking up the direction and mph just fine. I was worried it wouldn’t since the metal windshield frame is above it. Totally hidden.

Another thing I learned was to remove the circuit board from the oem mirror and keep it connected to the car to retain the key fobs’ lock/unlock function. There’s plenty of room in the panel above the mirror to store it.

The last thing I did was add a matte film to cut glare with the top down. www.screenprotech.com will sell wet mount film that I mounted on the mirror then trimmed to fit.

I should have taken a picture with the mirror lit up. Maybe tomorrow.
