Top frame guides are out of alignment

I had to replace the top frame guide on my '05 cooper, and after doing so, the slide that operates the hooks that latch down the roof have gotten out of alignment. The driver's side will completely release, and the passenger side is still 50% connected. What I think I need to do is to release the cables in the back, then align the hooks and tighten everything down again.

2 questions: First, does this sound like the right plan, and second, how do I release the cables?

Right now my top won't move forward or backward, which is ok until it starts raining at the end of the week. Any pointers are appreciated.
