R52 Understanding ABS trouble codes
Understanding ABS trouble codes
Hi. I have a 2006 Mini Cooper S convertible with the manual transmission. My ABS and traction control and tire pressure lights came on. I checked the tire pressures and they are good. I read the codes with my scanner (code reader) and it displayed codes of 5E5C, 5D91, 5D94, and 5D93 and indicated the problem is the left front wheel. I had this same issue when I bought the car used in 2013 and had to get the wheel sensor for the left front replaced. Do I have the same problem again? Has the replacement sensor failed? I have not been able to find a description of the ABS trouble codes.
Also, do I have a R52 or a R53? I have the supercharged engine.
Thanks!

I’d start by trying a new wheel sensor first.
As for your second question, you have an R52. A gen1 Cooper (non-s) is an R50, a gen1 Cooper S is an R53, and any gen1 Convertible (regardless of S or non-s) is an R52

Check your crank pulley before driving or running the engine anymore. They are known to fail and cause the trifecta of lights. If your lucky it will only be slipping, but the pulley can also completely fall off.
The big issue is the water pump is affected in either case which can lead to a warped head or blown engine.
An aftermarket pulley like an ATI or PRW is often used, and un-damped pulleys are not recommended, although that sometimes causes a big debate when mentioned.
