Mine died a while back too...and my 2005 just turned past 20,000 miles about two months ago..! WAY too soon for electronic parts to be failing.
I just turn off the DSC before I leave the driveway to make sure nothing interferes with anything else electronically.
The car's much more fun to drive with the "big brother" control turned off anyway.

Yes if you have DSC you will have a steering angle sensor.
If you are having steering angle issues before replacing it I would recommend recoding and aligning it first. That often can fix a fault with it.
But if that doesn't work replacing it isn't too bad, but will need to be coded after install.

But isn't the "coding" part the expensive...dealer operation only part ?
Mike
I don't feel the coding is expensive. Most MINI/BMW shops can do it as it is a standard operation with the BMW software. So you need to see what your local place will charge to do it. Most good mechanics will agree to try and code it first, then only replace if it doesn't fix it.
