Last week, WINO received a new roof! I had gone to the dealer to get some other werk done and asked the SA what the procedure was for the roof replacement.

She and her supervisor (service manager) came out and looked at the wear spots and took some digital pics that they sent to MiniUSA. Evidently, the replacement determination is made by MiniUSA.

A couple of days later, she called me and said that they had been given the go-ahead to replace the top and would have it ready on my return to town.

A few days later, I picked up WINO sporting a new hat.....

Thank you to all for sharing info and experiences with this. We recently bought an '05 MCSc and had noticed both the roof wear (whitish patches on the hinges, plus one small point that had started to wear through), as well as it sometimes giving VERY loud creeeeeak when closing the roof.

As our mileage had hit 35,000, we took the car in for service to deal with a few things. (Frequent Service Engine Soon light, leaking motor mount.) While the dealer made us wait until a factory rep could look at the roof, and this ended up meaning two trips back to the dealer, we learned today that a new roof is on order for us.

It certainly helped that we could document this being a known and existing issue with the '05s. The dealer told us "yes, yours has that problem, and it looks like the original owner never got it fixed." No problems, and a new roof is on its way.

I appreciate this thread for helping us to realize this wasn't just "normal wear" ... sure would have sucked to find holes in the roof a few months down the road!
