Nothing yet?

It's been a while since the initial letter came out... Any news?

I got the initial letter months ago. I talked to a SA this week who thought the parts would be available "soon". I was quoted $2000.00 when I looked into this a few years ago. I was told they had to replace the whole seat cover and mine was expensive because it was leather. I wonder if the "new" fix will also replace the whole seat bottom now that MINI/BMW has to pay.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I have a feeling they will be able to do it without replacing the seat bottom now that they have to pay for it.

Hi,
My local mini service manager says the new airbag fix will not include upholstery.

Sorry for stating "upholstery" when I meant "seat cover"

Made an appointment to have mine fixed last week as it was an available option on the Dealer's service page (had a couple other little things to have looked at as well.) Was told that they still do not have the parts in and there would be another notification coming out when the parts were available to the dealer to perform the work. Seems a little slow in getting up to speed...

I got my letter yesterday for the replacement of the mat under the passenger seat. Says it's a two hour job but could take longer.

I have an appointment Nov 10. She will also get a new passenger door release cable installed and a new windshield. She has not been passenger safe for a while now, good thing I rarely have passengers! I have to travel about 300 miles to a dealer so I have been waiting to do it all at once.

The dealer completed the work today. It only took 2 and a half days. I'd scheduled the appointment 6 weeks ago and was explicit that it was the recall and just a check on a few things. The end of the first day they said they were waiting for parts, but it would be done the next day. Called after 3 on the second day, well they were backed up in the service bays and couldn't get to it, but it would be done for sure the next day. They offered to arrange for a rental car. Their rental agency never called. Finally, today the dealer called and said the work was done and paid for the cab across town. But it was done, car washed, interior vacuumed. Friendly but not very efficient.

I called the dealer 3 weeks ago and they put me on a waiting list; they advised they would call once they received parts.

My MINI has completed the recall process! Just in case it benefits any one, here's how it went down for me.

Got the first letter in April. Waited until I got another letter letting me know parts were now available (a couple weeks ago). Called my dealer (MINI of Pensacola) and was informed that they were ordering parts for anyone who called, but were not making appointments as they had no reliable way to tell when MINIUSA would send the parts. They then said that the parts department would call me once the parts were on the way or in hand and let me know that it was time to make an appointment. The parts department called Oct 21 in the morning and I called the service department to schedule the appointment that afternoon. When making the appointment, I requested a loaner MINI since I work 1.5 hours from the dealer. Since a loaner MINI was not available until Oct 28th, that is when we made the appointment. I dropped my car off at 7:30am and got a call around 1 that day to let me know that my car was finished. I picked up my car the 29th. Overall it was as painless as a recall fix can be.

Thanks AeroJammin....haven't called my dealer 'cause I didn't want to spend unnecessary time figuring all this out.

Yep, getting a loner when a recall has been done might back things up, since everyone wants one , but it sounds things are moving along.

Deer called me back yesterday and advised that the parts are in. They have me scheduled to drop the car off on a Thursday eve and offered a loaner car without me even asking.

Had my recall done last week. Dropped car off in the morning for a fall check-up, had a few things done, the repairs and the recall fix were done by noon. No problem.

Did they have a part # on recall sheet or parts list?

Thanks , looks like an internal service part # on the mat, figured they would have a part number on the mat.

Had my passenger seat recall done today.
2007 R52 (base) w/sport seats.
Mini of Montgomery County, MD completed the service while I waited. It took approximately 2 hours.

Here's the parts they used:
Qty 1- 52109112567 Sports Seat Upholstery (pad)
Qty 1- 72117127153 Torx Bolt
Qty 4- 07149149258 Fillister Head Screw
Qty 18- 52101945543 Clamp

I deliberately scheduled on a Saturday to avoid missing work and having to leave the car there. Overall it was pretty painless.

No, 2009 is not covered. The recall is only for 1st generation models (2005-2006 hardtop, 2005-2008 convertible). It took 10 years of complaints before BMW/MINI was forced to issue a recall. Everybody with a problem should file a complaint with the NHTSA to help with the process: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
