R52 r52 2008 Sidewalk delimma - engine failed
So correct me if I'm wrong but if it is a Sidewalk and a SC car, wouldn't that make it an 07 at the lastest? Something to ask Carmax right there if selling you and 07 and claiming it to be an 08.
Next I'd want to know what caused the engine to fail. My concern would be the tranny and the parts down the road. If it's an 07 that's about 3000 miles a year which means it sits alot. Not always a good thing.

Sidewalks were sold in '08. I ordered my R52 in the last month you could order them, and Sidwalk was an option then. Actually, I wasn't realy aware there were any '07 Sidewalks, but I suppose I wouldn't have noticed at the time.
Thanks I didn't know they were offered in 08... but if this one is SC it's an 07...
I'd imagine the OP got a carfax from Carmax and might can tell how much "sitting" the car did some years... Like someone else mentioned maybe Carmax changed the oil and forgot to put oil in it.. but other then that I'd be leaning towards walking away...

SC = "supercharged," right?
I think Sidewalks were only offered in the 1st generation models, either normally aspirated or supercharged. The convertible held over one year with the 1st gen style and engines after the hardtops got the redesign and new engine.
My MCSC convertible, ordered January 2008, delivered March 2008, was supercharged.
The all black Special edition "Last of the Supercharged" Sidewalk edition came out later than that. Another thread says the R52 stopped production in July 2008.
That sounds about right.

'08 Convertibles were R52's; first generation cars. Mine was put in service in October of '08, and built about three weeks prior to that. There are actually some cars labelled by the factory as "Last of the R52's", with badges saying as much. They were made at the same time as mine. They are supercharged, of course.
There were no '09 convertibles, and the 2nd gen ones came out in '10.

The car is indeed and 08 SC convertible sidewalk. The oild was fine. I am very particular and checked it as well as the other obvious stuff before leaving the lot to drive the 2 hrs home. The engine has made it to the states from Europe and is on its way to Carmax this week. The car from all other check points seems to be in excellent condition.
We have made the decision to keep it and are anxiously awaiting to have it back to enjoy driving this fall on the Blue Ridge parkway. I want to add to this Carmax has been very great to deal with. I would buy another car there in the future for certain.

Sounds like you got lemons, and made lemonade!! Having a used car with a new/remanfactured motor, sounds like a great deal if you can wait.
And for the folks confused about the year/gen....
the cabrio was built as a gen1 car for a full 2 years after gen1 hardtop production stopped. So a 2008 can be a gen1 sc gen1 car!"

The car is back! I picked up the car last Tuesday night. I have been breaking in the engine per the guidelines and it is running very nicely. Driving the car back to my house from Carmax put a big smile on my face and reminded me of why we bought the car in the first place. Once home I have inspected the car more closely and everything looks very well done. Only tIme will tell how this will go but as of today we have put 500 miles on her and are very pleased.
Thanks to everyone for your comments on my post, it was very helpful!
