R52 Dead Battery, Broken Lock what to do?
Dead Battery, Broken Lock what to do?
I have a bit of a Dilemma that I'm hoping I don't need to get professional help for
I have a 2006 Cooper, and had to park it for a few weeks in our outdoor carport while I did some traveling for work. well, I didn't really need it when I got back and the few weeks went a few months. Now I am ready checked on it, expecting the battery to have died, and discover that the drivers side door handle is broken, it looks like someone attempted to break into it.
Now the Fobs do not unlock the door, I'm betting the battery is dead, and the lock is broken as well, so I can't manually unlock the door - Do I have any recourse other than call a mechanic and see what they can do?
I'd try to replace the battery, but don't know of a way to open the bonnet manually from the outside, Any suggestions?
we have a decent Mechanic that does good work on our coopers, but would rather spend the money on other repairs on poor Emma.

The boot lock can manually open when the battery is dead, there is a little ring on a cable that you pull to unlock it. But...it's under the rear seat so you would need to be inside the car to open it.
So yes, you will need a professional to unlock the door.

If you can get at a tail light, a marker light or license plate light lamp socket, you may be able to connect a trickle charger to the lamp socket and charge the battery that way. Then you'd be able open it with your remote key fob.
