Top opens and tucks back as expected.

Push the button to raise/close the top ... it raises
as expected and the two arms drop into place at
the two latch points (upper corners of windshield).

However, the latch claws do not move forward
to clamp and engage. The 20amp fuse blows at
this point. My assumption is that the there are
multiple motors at work - one motor in the back
to raise the top into place to the latch points,
then a second motor (I assume is in the middle of
the top) takes over and latches the top and also
assumes responsibility to open/close the "sunroof"
portion of the top.

Even though the 20amp fuse is blown, the top can
be raised and lowered as usual, but at the moment
when the latch mechanism is expected to engage,
the fuse blows. Obviously, there is something binding
the "sunroof" motor's driveline, thereby blowing
the fuse. Additionally, the red LED light at the
switch flashes repeatedly.


Has any experienced this issue? Any suggestions?

 

I've never had it happen to me. It sounds like a call to the dealer is in order.

 

As it turns out, we brought the car to the dealership. They
explained that the top's frame was rubbing on the wiring
harness to the sunroof. It is this harness that controls the
latching mechanism and the movement of the sunroof. The
constant rubbing action eventually rubbed the wires (in the
harness) bare, thus shorting the circuit. They listed the
harness to be under the left-side headliner and behind
the top canvas.

Posting this follow-up so folks with similar symptoms will
know what the potential outcome might be. BTW - they
didn't replace the harness, but clipped out the bad wiring
and coupled in new wires.

The frustrating part of this issue is the ordeal we had (having)
with the dealership.

 

Hi -

I had this problem once last week. No fuse was blown though. The roof made contact with the cowl but the claws won't engage to lock onto the pillar. I kept pressing the button a few times but nothing came of it. Not risking overheating the motors, I gave it a 15 minute break, tried again and it locked onto the pillar on the first attempt.

From your description, I'm a bit confused where the harness is. Can you please elaborate? Is it within the left (driver side) roof arm? What needs to be removed to check it?

If it's not too complicated, I will check it out myself instead of driving to the dealer.
