I figured it was a good time to put my summer wheels on today. Whew, I'm so glad to have them on again.
My winters are 17" bullet wheels with runflat winter tires. Handle great, but the ride is rough. At the time I made the choice of runflat winters, I was just getting out of a Z4 - with 18" runflat performance tires - and in comparison, runflats on the MINI rode quite well. And I thought it beneficial to have runflats in the winter when the roads are bad. On smooth roads of course they are fine, but on bad roads - or my 1/4 mile gravel driveway - it was becoming pure agony.
My summer set is 17" ASA AR1 wheels with non-runflat BF Goodrich performance tires (forget the exact model, but they have quite a unique and conversation-starting tread pattern). And the difference is just night and day... it's been so long I forgot the MINI could handle well and not ride like the wheels were made of stone.
I was so tired of the ride that I was seriously considering selling both sets of wheels and getting 16" wheels. But now it feels perfect. I am never putting that winter set on again... I'll try to sell them and get some non-runflat winters. Anyone want a set of MINI bullet wheels with snow tires on them? Only around 4k miles on the tires.
So, like most everyone always says - ditch the runflats at your first opportunity.

So you've had weekend to drive around on your new tires- Still loving them? Which Goodrich did you decide they were?
It's time for me to take off my 16" winter Conti runflats and put back my summer 17" Bridgestone Potenza RE05As (runflats). Trouble is, I'll have to replace my them sometime this summer. Still debating whether to go with runflats or not.
