M7 STB?

Hi all,

Is a M7 STB going to fit on a 2008 R52? I assume so, but I just wanted to check before plunking down the shekles.

Yes, I looked on the M7 site, but it isn't clear. It only claims up through '06 and I've gotten no response to email.

Thanks...

I believe they trying to work it out with their cold air intake, but Peter would have to comment on that.

As a side note, I have not felt any improvement from having the bar. The plates are great for the anti-mushrooming peace-of-mind (and are worth "plunking down the shekles"), but my unrequested advice is to save the $ on the bar (unless the bling factor is worth it to you) and put it towards another upgrade. . . like the USS.

FWIW, I've got an '06 Cabrio S with the JCW intake, and my M7 STB fits with no issues. I have read that the Cabrio hasn't changed much for '07 and '08, which makes me think you're OK to buy.

I too opted for the M7 for its anti-mushrooming properties more than for its suspension enhancing. That said, I still recommend the brace over just the tower plates. As the car ages (and I plan on having mine for a very long time), chassis and body flex increases. The STB, and the underbody TSW brace are what I hope will minimize that.

I have the M7 STB with a CAI box and I have a slight hood bulge (will be fixed when its warmer) I also have the TSW crossbrace. I love how my car handles now. What honestly made the biggest difference though was rims/tires.

Dan at Grassroots Garage fit my MCSC with the M7 STB and the JCW airbox. He had to modify the hood liner, but it fits like glove now.

I have an '08 Cabrio S with the JCW engine kit and had the same question, M7 told me it would fit and they were right. Still need to modify the hood liner, waiting for warmer weather.

I also got the M7 STB for my '05 S for the anti-mushrooming properties (i travel on a lot of rough dirt roads on the way to play in the woods) and body flex, didn't expect (or really get) handling improvements.

However, when going slowly over steep inclines (a steep driveway, for example), the body would always make an interesting/loud tweaking noise coming from the roof/roof rack area. That has gone away with the addition of the STB.

Another solution for that: get rid of the roof on your MINI

i was thinking the same thing. the plates do look like they will be effective. the bar looks nice.....as most m7 products do. very easy install. have i felt any difference? no. if you want to feel a difference, try the omp (or others) lower stress bar and you will feel a difference!

there is a great threat about hood bulge remedies somewhere. i think https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...light=m7+bulge i highly recommend taking out the liner and cutting out the back side as described in the thread. it took very little time and wasn't messy/wet at all. best of all, bar install and liner cut out took less than an hour and worked perfectly!!

I can only think of two options:

1) An Army-khaki Jeep, newly produced from the 1943 design.

2) The appendage on a newly born male infant.

hey tony, to answer your question:
the m7 bar fits just fine on my '08 mcsc....which i believe was the same build week as yours! there is a notch on the underside of the bar to make room for cai's......there is a good amount of room over my stock box.....i checked out cg1's (another week 5/6 bretheren) mcsc jcw last week, and the cai really didn't look like it would be an issue. now if you have the mcsc jcw "willie" you might have to wait . happy trails!

That one is easy A " 08 willie " is what you get when you are sitting in your room at AMVIV and while typing on your Iphone you get a warning that you have 5% power left. I think I was going for " will be available "

I was worried where your definition of "willie" was going to go from there

As I'm the OP, I think it's only fair that I add the epilogue...

I installed my STB today, without too much of a hitch. We used the 'remove the liner' technique and only lost one little plastic thingie down into the depths of the car. Hopefully it's not stuck in some location where it will damage something.

Folks: definitely throw a blanket over the engine if you decide to go this route.

Also, I found that children's sidewalk chalk is absolutely perfect for marking where on the liner you'll need to thin things...

M7 STB works great on JCW CAI. I've got it and it's perfect. Check my gallery for clearance between the CAI and the bar

You'll feel the car braced. Well, this kind of bars like the sway bars or the strut bars help transferring the shocks and movements from one stressed side to the other. So because of this, beside the fact that the STb braces the car, you'll feel it the most while turning. You'll feel that the two towers and front sides are sticking on the ground, even if there are bumps whil turning. Also, it will make the front end stiffer. Think about a stiff sway bar effect on the rear to imagine how it feels on the front with a STB.
