New Cooper

Hello,
My girlfriend is looking into a new 2007 Mini Cooper s convertible with sidewalk packege. It has just about every option but the JCW and nav. They are asking 33,000, is this a good price? If not how much room is there to bargen with a new mini. Thank you for the help.

Yep, that sounds like the going price.

When it comes to new MINIs, the price is pretty much the price. You'll find more dealerships charging over MSRP than you'll find ones willing to come down off the MSRP.

And when it comes to previously owned ones, you'll find these cars maintain their value very well. You'll pay nearly as much for a 1 or 2 year old MINI as you will a brand-spanking new one.

I bought the same car...my sticker was just over $32k. They wouldn't budge on the price of the car, but I got them to come up $500 on my trade, and speaking of freebies...I got them to throw in window tint (only legal limit, so if you want darker, have it done elsewhere) and also the Windscreen which is the BEST thing you could have on your cabrio for open motoring.

+1 for free windscreen . . . and if you're in northern climate, an extra set of black rubber floor mats might be nice.

Where are you located? I was just at a dealer and they must of had 10 convertibles there including a few sidewalk models. This was in Northern California.

Awesome; congrats; and welcome to NAM.

Astro Black Sidewalks are stunning. . . and I didn't realize it had LSD -- great option, and the only one I trully wish I had but don't.

Is this *really* true? I see a lot of people putting their two year old MINIs up for sale at premium prices here and on sites like CraigsList, but I've also noticed those cars seem to never sell. Post for a month, bump a couple of times, lower the price $1000, bump a few more times, lower the price another $1000, and here it's six months later and you're still sitting on your old MINI.

I have no doubt that people are asking near list price for their used MINIs, but is anyone actually paying that?

Earlier this year we bought a used '05 MCSc, 30K miles, and almost all the options (including factory nav). Beautiful condition, inside and out. We paid $21K for this car that had listed two years earlier for over $33K.

CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW CABRIO! You'll love it.

However, has anyone here really resold a two-year old MINI and gotten anywhere near what they paid for it?

^ I haven't found that to be true either.
Yep, MINIs hold their value better than 99% of other cars . . . but they still suffer a large depreciation the first couple of years.

I also got my 05 at the beginning of this year for about 10k below original list.

I ended going new primarily because of the high resale value. I figured for the few thousand in savings it was worth extending the warranty. At the time I decided to buy, there wasn't all that much for sale in my area and I wasn't going to buy one site unseen across the country. Also, I couldn't find one with the options I wanted.

Which reminds me...I too, got them to throw in black rubber mats...the carpet looks nicer, but the rubber is so much easier to clean, not to mention, no need to stress about dirty shoes, or dragging sand into the car.

Yes sand is one thing we have our share of here! We rhino lined the jeeps but I dont think that would look good in the mini

Probably not! Welcome to the Sidewalk club!

Which island are you on? My best friend lives on Maui, tho I still haven't made it out there to see him.

Being in Hawaii your choices are probably limited. In Florida where I live, the two closest stealers both add $500+ dealer fees to MSRP. I had to go to S. Carolina to avoid this. In addition, the Greenville dealer advertises $1500 in free factory accessories with the purchase of select models. When I inquired, just about all their inventory was 'select'. Of course this could change but check out their website. Better deals can be had.
