Vehicle Memory

Can anyone enlighten me on the vehicle memory adjustments? Specifically, how to open the windows and top with the remote control key.

Remote opening is a dealer activated feature. If activated, it requires four presses of the unlock button to work.

Press once to unlock driver's door
Press again to unlock passenger door
Press/Hold to open windows and sunroof (hold until windows down and sunroof completely open)
Press/Hold to lower top (hold until process complete). Sometimes I have had to release and press/hold the button again to put top down.

If you open a door, etc. or release the button before the windows/top are completely down the process stops. Also, if your car's battery charge is low this function will not work.

There is a list of dealer activated features like Daytime Running Lights, etc but I don't have a copy with me right now. You could do a search here on NAM and probably find the whole list.

Thanks for the response. No way to do it yourself I guess. Being 75 miles from the nearest dealer is a PITA for sure.

I feel your pain. I'm 112 miles from the dealer, and with city traffic in Memphis it's a 3hr drive one way.

Hello - I searched the site but could not find a post with a list of possibilities for key programming. Can someone post it here? I was thinking of having the windows drop, sunroof option, than top down....but I didn;t know other possible options were daytime running lights etc. a list would be incredibly helpful.

I'll see if I can find my list. May take a day or two, though.

I do not think that you need to do anything for the open windows, open top by holding the remote unlock button down. I am pretty sure ALL Minis are delivered that way. When locking MINI with key in drivers door lock ..... turn to lock position and keep the key turned.... and all the windows will go up and the roof will close.

Programming choices: auto door lock on/off, Daytime running lights on/off, unlock doors upon turning ignition key off on/off

These are the three I remeber for my 2005.

I found the list in the owners manual, page 49. There are 11 items that can be activated/deactivated by the dealer. Does anyone know if they charge for doing this?

Oh yeah - my MA told me there were options, and its no charge - he just never made me aware of the choices. Once my car gets to the dealer I want to call him with my choices (I like so many others have over 100 miles to get to the dealership - I dont plan on brining it back excpet for service)

Having to involve the dealer in programming certain aspects of the car's operation that should be instead a simple owner-programmable operation is one thing I detest about MINI and their parent BMW.

Actually, the convertibles weren't(but may be now). In fact some dealers were (at one time) refusing to activate the convenience opening feature on convertibles due to the possibility of it working while the driver had the keys in their pocket. When we bought Gromit, we weren't told about the programmable options but I found out about them a week after we bought him. I was going back a couple of weeks later for the aux input install, and had them activate it then. At that time, the initial programming was free. After that, if you wanted the options changed there was a charge-$25 I think. Of course, that was in 2005.

I've attached the programmable options list I have. Notice it is for 2004 & 2005 MINIs, but the convertible convenience opening isn't listed.

It is totally at the whim of the dealer and service advisor. There is a service bulletin from MINI that recommends dealers not charge for it, but it was only a suggestion. My dealer told me that I get one chance to request changes for free, then they'll charge a half hour labor for additional requests. However, one time when my car was in for something unrelated, they updated one of my options free. Some NAM members have had to pay for changes.

The options are now owner programmable in the R56. However, a few of the options are only programmable if you have a Nav screen.

In the past, MINI has called it "comfort opening", and they seem to call it convenience opening now. It applies to both hardtop and convertible, just the difference being sunroof vs. ragtop.

I have an 06 Mini S Convert and from what I am gathering there is no way I can change any functions (the ones with the little "men" in the manual) without going to a dealer? There is no list of step 1, 2, 3 etc?
