R52 Convertible Regrets??
This is an entertaining thread, in that the responses are so predictable...
It's like going to lunch with a group of vegetarians and asking them if they were happy with their choice of the garden salad intead of the alternative cheesburger. Even if someone found a worm on a leaf of lettuce, that person still couldn't conceive of the other choice being superior (and they'd be reluctant to tell you about the worm).

I owned both the hardtop and convertible versions of the S and I sold the covertible after about 6 months of ownership. I loved the look of the car--it was beautiful, but I did not like the huge blind spots the car had with the roof up. In addition, it did not seem as well planted at highway speeds as my Z3 does--it seemed to drift a bit.
I have just placed an order for my third Mini which will be a laser blue S hardtop. I was a bit nervous about buying on the left coast since moving from the SE and hearing all the mark-up stories, but I couldn't be more pleased so far with Brecht in the San Diego area.

Maybe not as much trunk (boot) space as a hardtop, but look how easy it is to load that limited space with the top down.
No regrets about having the cabrio (as said above: Hot Orange rules!), but I do wish I could get some of the cool roof graphics I've seen. I guess that just means I'll have to get a hardtop to go with my cabrio.

Looked rather relaxed, as if to say in its' wormlike language.
"enjoy the ride, motor on"

I agree with you regarding the blind spot, but there is a way to fix that problem. Keep the top down.
That new MINI sounds nice. Good color.
I wish there a way for MINI to make a hard top convertible. Then it would be the best of both worlds. Our other car is the new VW Eos and it is fantastic! Personally, after getting spoiled with a hard top convertible I wouldn't go soft top again on any car but I'm sure the MINI cabrio is a blast too.
There's no such thing as a hardtop convertible. In my curmudgeonly opinion, if it ain't vinyl then it ain't really a convertible. I have a hard time accepting roll up windows and a roof that doesn't leak
Also, I've been in some cars that have worse blind spots that the Cabrio (though not many). Having a hardtop doesn't mean that the problem would be solved. I have two solutions. 1) Leave top down. 2) Drive fast enough that it doesn't matter what's behind you
No regrets. I run it top down almost all the time, unless it's raining. I have driven that way in 107 degree weather, and down to as low as 45 (it won't get really cold here for a couple more months..) I believe the manual says I can lower the top at any temperature above the upper teens, so I will be giving that a try this winter.
None really... but Dougal is purely a secondary car and thus only get's driven on nice days... Sometime in November, he'll probably move to my house in PA and get parked in the garage for the Winter... and sicne we have 3 other Winter-driven cars, I don't mind saving this one from the salt. Especially after the joy of wrenching on a 5 year old car that was never driven in snow/salt (Jerseygirl's past M3).
We have 5 other cars, so day-to-day trunk space is of little concern... but I've discovered that two of our folding chairs and a folding table fit in the boot quite nicely. Rarely do we need to carry more.
Sometimes I wish we could have sprung for the S, but I like the looks of the Cooper better... and we already have an MCS... I'm hoping to someday add an Aero kit to spruce it up even more along with Panasports and maybe exhaust and some kind of lowering...
I'm not ashamed to admit Dougal will be all about the asthetics.
FYI, it's generally best for the top to store a convertible with the top up.

Blind spot?
1) Multivex mirrors. Both sides. Get used to them, set them right, and never have to worry about what's in your blind spot.
2) I always back in to parking lot spaces (and my garage, as well). Then I don't have to worry about backing out in front of (or over) somebody...
3) As has been said, top down when there is no rain...

I wanted a convertible since the 80's but due to circumstances of life I wasnt able to get one until this year. Am I ever glad that my first one is a MINI. It is fantastic. It put the fun back in roadtrips! I was able to pack me and my pooch and all the tailgating gear in my car for the
Richmond race. Much more room than first appearances would have you believe.

Well, when it gets down below about 40 & at highway speed, my windows go up I'm afraid. But I'll easily do the low 30's with the top down and windows up with a leather jacket and a cap. But then I sail some in those conditions too!
i have aN infiniti g35 coupe. it has a sunroof and 280 hp..... BUT i'd rather be driving my mini convertible for the top down open air driving and better handling
i also have a cruiser motorcycle ..... BUT I'd rather be riding my mini for better handling and no bugs in my teeth when driving
my g35 has a little more trunk space than the mini and my motorcycle has no trunk space... so i guess i'm trying to say that i'm used to it already

How do you avoid the bugs in your teeth in your Cabrio?
I find myself carrying MINI toothpicks for minor cleanups after the commute to work. Maybe the bugs like my tunes 'a crankin'
No Regrets!
This is my first rag top, and I am definately a convertible person. Blind spots have been covered (my favorite is not putting the top up), and the luggage issue is solved by traveling light. Went for a week long trip last spring with wife and teenage son without any problems. How much stuff do you need to bring anyway? (We do have a larger car also - Element)

I love the convertible. I've had quite a few. I loved driving my cabrio, top down every chance I got, and with the factory wind blocker I had more opportunities. I replaced my Cabrio with another convertible. Did I mention I love converibles. A hard top convertible would be the absolute best! Who needs trunk room when you have the sky for a top!!!
