AC - temp difference between driver and passenger side ???

HI,
Yesterday we tried actually the AC for the first time since we got the car.
It was so hot that we decided to leave the roof up while shopping between stores ( I put it down again when we drove home).
Was was weird though, the air coming out of the 2 vents on the passenger side was cooler than the one on the driver side ?!
We habe the automatic AC and the temp was dialed down all the way.
From my SAAB I'm used that I can regulate the driver side independent from the passenger and back seat but that isn't an option here. So how can it be different ?
