Calling all High Mileage CVT Mini's

I'm just about to hit 4 years and 40,000 miles on my Mini and was considering the extended warranty. How have all of you high mileage cvt mini's been, any major problems or things to look out for? Would any you recommend to buy the extended warranty?

I don't have a CVT, but I'd recommend it ... I've seen too many (more than one) report of CVT failure around 60K miles.

Do you know how much they usually go for, the extended warranty? My dealer quoted $1,700, and I thought that was kinda high.

Maybe not, just wanted to see what others have to say.

If you plan to keep your CVT equipped MINI, that extended warranty could be money very well spent. CVT's aren't cheap & I've read about a few that have died shortly after the factory warranty was up.

I know someone who has a car out of warranty (Honda) and is getting a aftermarket warranty with a already diagnosed existing transmission problem that requires a complete tranny replacement. However, they said there's some kind of waiting period (1-2months) before they can actually get it covered under the aftermarket warranty. And it seems to be legit to do, I guess. I don't think car warranties work quite like health insurance where if you are not covered your're screwed. But since I'm not positive on how it works you might want to try contacting an aftermarket warranty company on if it's possible to cover a car with a serious condition. That way you would only have to buy the warranty if and when you need it. I have a cvt as well and I'm concerned about this as well.
