Loops in boot?

I just got the rubber boot mat in the mail today, and I put it in, but there are some metal loops that seem to be getting in the way of it fitting comfortably. I've got 4 of them, just under the back of the rear seat - two running vertically, and two running horizontally. It's looks kinda like this: | __ __ |

The boot mat is pre-cut out to fit the vertical ones, but not the horizontal ones.

Is there a way to remove the horizontal ones? What are all those loops for, anyway? To attach baby/child car seats? I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find anything, and the only gallery pictures I showed boots with only the two vertical loops. Any help/comments that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. I think they're attached to the bottom of the rear seats, but I'm not sure cuz I've never taken out my rear seats. The bf has taken his out for autocross, but I never really look at his boot so I'm not much help.

I have the boot mat in my MINI, and the horizontal loops don't really bother me. Mat fits just fine. There are pics in my gallery..

Those loops are for cargo tie downs. I only have the vertical ones. I use them to tie down a milk crate with bungee cords sometimes. The crate holds stuff so that it stays put on high G turns. I think there is also a factory cargo net that uses those points.

Thanks for the input guys.

It doesn't look so bad in your pictures, Leslie - For some reason, it looks a little more bent out of place in mine. Maybe it will look a little better once the mat conforms a bit more to my boot.

So, from comparing our cars, basically, it seems like the MCS models have only the vertical loops, but the MC has the vertical and horizontal. That seems weird. I wonder why? Unless there's something else responsible for the difference...maybe the model year? Mine's a 2006 too...
