Just a note on Darwinism.

I believe that personal tradgedy aside, (their family and friends loss as well as the trauma of injuring or possibly killing someone) natural selection would be well served to remove people who could just open their door and get out after screeching to a stop without looking in their rear-view to see if their choice of actions MAY KILL THEM.

People make mistakes, some in years past have caused me to hit their cars with mine, but to this day I have not seen THAT level of stupidity. Save the woman and boy out of their cars on a country road hysterical about having injured a turtle. In that incident I had to "order" them into their car to get them to not endanger themselves further as cars were fast approaching from the oncoming lane, but save the turtle that ended without injury to person or automobile.

(accident one, the other person at the last minute getting out of a left lane and punching it put them in the path of my truck. accident two, what I call a "sports car leftie" where the person in front of me with no signals slammed the brakes and went to turn left from too high a speed, thus I (avoiding a rear ending in a no-fault state) careened into her driver side. accident 3, going through a greenlight someone running through a red shortened their car by 1.5 feet by slamming into the rear quarter of my Bronco, this did unfortunately roll me.)

Dark, I did say I'd not have done anything didn't I?
Frankly if it had been me, and I did have her crying, well it may just be those emotions that kept her from getting out again after screeching to a stop, and in the future that may save her life.

PMM I ask that you please read more closely and keep a mind for intent.

You know that if someone's fool actions caused you to wreck your car you'd have told them how you feel. Perhapse you thought I'd have threatened violence, but you are mistaken. Things like mentioning how close to death she came to for getting out of the car w/o looking to see me coming up behind her and such tend to shock people into realization of how close they came to true tradgedy.

PMM, further if one persaon says you are wrong, they have an opinion. If two say so the first has a friend. If three people........

For the notes on avoiding accidents (all mine were greater than 7 years ago) I have been told by my passengers that they want to have a horn on their side because I do not ever use mine........I tent to just avoid the accident in the first place where more panicy drivers tend to lay on the horn and hope someone else will move to get them out of the accident.......BOOM

>>You know that if someone's fool actions caused you to wreck your car you'd have told them how you feel. Perhapse you thought I'd have threatened violence, but you are mistaken.

Let me quote your original post:

>>You are a man of greater restraint than I. I'd have at least beaten the crap out of her car.
>>No I wouldn't, but man it would take me all the restraint in the world not to.
>>I tell you what, she'd be back in her car crying from the verbal barage I'd have given her.

You state that you would like to beat the crap out of a lone women driver, then change your mind to only have her crying. Sorry my telepathy was not working that day.

>> Things like mentioning how close to death she came to for getting out of the car w/o looking to see me coming up behind her and such tend to shock people into realization of how close they came to true tradgedy.

You seemed to have missed posting this in your original post, I just seem to see the desire for violence.

>>PMM, further if one persaon says you are wrong, they have an opinion. If two say so the first has a friend. If three people........

Doesn't make them right. You just have to look at the number of plonkers on the road driving too close, to fast. Doesn't make them right, just possibly dead.

>>For the notes on avoiding accidents (all mine were greater than 7 years ago) I have been told by my passengers that they want to have a horn on their side because I do not ever use mine........

Time for some more driving lessons then. Knowing when to use the horn to warn others is a vital driving skill. If your passengers want a horn to warn others of your presence, I would suggest that you are doing something wrong.

>>I tent to just avoid the accident in the first place where more panicy drivers tend to lay on the horn and hope someone else will move to get them out of the accident.......BOOM

I try not to get into situations where I have to avoid accidents. Driving is a bit safer that way.

A note to the public.

Anything you ever type can and will be interpreted as poorly as possible by someone.

This message is included.

BTW PMM if you are looking to drive safer, completely avoid Florida.

This is NOT from me to you, but a statement about how poor the average driver is here. So for me to "drive safer" I need to move, but I like it here, bad drivers and all.

This time of year you'd think they never drove in the rain before with the number of accidents on the radio every day.

Oh, PMM if you need to respond, please note all my replies have explained more thoroughly my previous statements and intents.

Please do not leave more in the form of attacks on me.

And I do appologise if that is taken as one on you.

Flesh soft. Rocks and bushes hard. I would have opted to give out some skin-grafts (sp?), but that's just me.

Ok, I know that's not the way it works, but the evil creeps up from within. If I could control it I'd be a motivational speaker, but it's not to be.

On a more serious and less-sarcastic note,I'm glad you and the MINI will be repairable.

Safe motoring,

J.

You think floriDUH drivers are bad? You should come visit up here. RI are bad, MA are worse, and let's not even talk about NJ....

I once drove to Atlantic City NJ from RI in a 3 inch snow storm and my Dad and I saw 23 wrecks that day.... 2 right as we watched...

The best one was a cadilac (sp) type car was jacked up on the toll booth. We're talking front bumper up on the beam that protects the toll booth attedant, and back bumper on the ground with the car more upright than horizontal!!!! Funniest thing I have ever seen. And the guy was looking down from his door with this look of bewilderment....

PRICELESS!

We rocked the 5 hour drive without a single incident in the A4. Quatro and driving skills help a lot....

>>Agreed, but with the number of posts from the immature plonkers on this board, who (I repeat) seem to think that they are driving gods, culminating in the rant from the prat who wanted to terrorise a lone woman driver; it makes you almost ashamed to drive a MINI.

Sorry pmm I gotta take the risk to sound like a "plonker" or a "prat", the woman deserved a good verbal thrashing. All to often a situation arises like the aforementioned and the person responsible leaves the scene feeling that they did nothing wrong because they wern't cited by the police. They never learn anything and if the same situation arose again they would do the same thing and next time they might not have a good driver in a superior handling car willing to risk life and limb to save their worthless hide. Next time it may be Jimbo Stroat in his 76 F150 with bad brakes that takes her and her door for a nice skid down the road. Some people have to be told in a manner they can't misinterpret that they were wrong, stupid, and need to leave the driving to a person with cognitive abilities exceding thier own. A good yelling would have done her good, after you politely ask her if she is OK of course. BTW good driving for the mini. At least he realizes he made a mistake and owns up to it. Sorry to rant but Jeez some people...........

>>Oh, PMM if you need to respond, please note all my replies have explained more thoroughly my previous statements and intents.

I understand your statements and intents entirely. I just don't like them.

>>Please do not leave more in the form of attacks on me.

None were intended as an attack, just incomprehension that somebody could consider behaving in such a manner, even if it was intended as a joke.

Again I will quote your original post in full:

>>You are a man of greater restraint than I. I'd have at least beaten the crap out of her car.
>>No I wouldn't, but man it would take me all the restraint in the world not to.
>>I tell you what, she'd be back in her car crying from the verbal barage I'd have given her.

Sorry, still don't see the joke.

As this group seems to share your views, there seems little point in continuing mentioning that I find them distasteful (or am I still not getting the joke?).

My other vehicle is an 86 f-150 with CRAPPY brakes. Had I been behind the lady she would have been road kill, no way i could have stopped and it doesn't turn that well either. I love Fords, just not as much as Mini's. One of my dream cars is a vintage 68 mustang with a 427 SCJ. Still think the lady needed a wake-up call

Great, a driver who knows their car is dangerous and is proud of it.

Harmini- thanks Hon, I'm pleased with the results.

pmm- I have no desire to enter into a urination contest with someone of your obvious knowledge, skills and abilities. Read the first page of this thread. Following distance was not the culprit. Her vehicle could have been parked in the decel lane for a week. I chose (poorly, I might add) to go around it. But, you know best. With all due respect, Brad.

>>I was suprised to see my post revived. I have gotten my car back (after almost 9 weeks) and it seems fine.... a few minor issues but otherwise OK. I added Aero skirts and performance springs. So I am happy. I guess even a driving God (HAH) has an off day. No one was hurt, that is all that really matters.

*** You are absolutely correct *** Do not get out of your car on the freeway! ***

And thank you for the update about how it all ended with your MINI being fixed.

You are a Hero! You and every other driver who chooses the ditch, rail, median, bushes, tree, etc... and avoids hitting another driver is to be commended!

My Dad taught me to drive and I've always driven with a "where's the way out" type of style. I've had to choose the ditch only once. I got a flat tire and the man I avoided changed it for me. He said it was his fault and I'd saved him an accident in his wife's car, which he was not familular driving.

There are some fine people in the world and Darksky you count as one!

I'm going out on a limb here....

But PMM is the Immaculate Driver... he knows his distances and knows how other drivers react and control/or don't control their own driving situations. Knows the driving typoes and patterns of every person on the road within his bubble of safety. He is the Supreme Motoring Being, one who has no flaws when it comes to the road. I do hapheartedly applaude his professional road handling skills and distance control.

We should all learn by his example....

Now if only his social skills matched his driving record.

Nope, I just don't drive (or should I say aim) a car like some of the people posting here.

Ahh, insults now. There is reasoned argument for you

So what you are saying, is that you would have had difficulty missing a car that had stopped at that location for some time (e.g. broken down 1/2 hour before). You don't thing you were going just a little to fast for the conditions?

Sorry, daft question, of course you don't think you were, or that you should be able to stop in the distance that you can see ahead.

OK! Everyone...that's enough. This thread has been brought back to life more than once and it's pointless to bring it back with more arguing.....

We all do not drive the same way on this site....that's just the way it is. It is not anyone else's job to dig on any other people about how they drive and what they would do in said situation. Darksky got into a real predicament when this happened and he handled it the best way he knew how....and luckily everything has gotten straightened out at this point and everyone is fine.

I don't like locking threads so that is not what I am going to do....but please let's just drop it....I want everyone on MCO to have a nice time and this is conversation is completely counter-productive.

Thanks in advance, guys!
