I don't but a co-worker has a set (4) of them surrounding her house.

You may want to look into a gas cap lock. Someone that would key a car might also add something to the gas.

Thanks for the support guys

slickfast: I changed the S-badges on the sides for Cooper grills... I was not a big fan of the S-badges.

krut: I was born in Quebec City, then moved to Drummondville for a few years, spent most of my time in Montreal, and lived in Sherbrooke for 2 years before moving south.

chows4us: The parking lot is for everyone to use it. There is room for 4 cars. That women lived far away from that spot in the park. The parking lot is located at the end of the street and she lives at the front of the park.

The camera system looks like a very good idea, but I would not have any place to install the cameras since the parking lot is between two houses.

Oh i gotcha. Thanks!

Also, what I meant by that thing before is that of of course i know it's inexcusable to vandalize a car, but it just seems like of all the cars you hear getting keyed, a mini is not one of them!

You have to be careful with surveillance. In some states it is effectively illegal for private citizens to conduct surveillance, particularly if there is a chance that police could end up being recorded. There is a case in New England in which a man was arrested under a NH wiretapping law for videotaping police.

It might be better just to get the woman on a hand-held keying your car again.

Man, she didn't miss a panel, did she?

Was this Kindly Grey Haired Lady put out at all by your use of the space? Did friends visiting her for their weekly cauldron making club have to walk furhter becuase you were taking the spots where they parked their brooms? The way you describe this, it just sounds like hate for hate's sake.

This happend to my wife (then girlfriend) had this happen to her new Explorer back in '95 in a small town in Connecticut. She had an apartment on a touristy main street with only street parking available, so she got in the habit of parking a few blocks off the main street and hoofing it to her apartment when the street parking was taken up. (a residential street, but not marked as private). One of the residents on the street took issue with the situation, not because they needed the space or anything, probably just because they didn't like tourists. We got confronted by her and explained the situation. She said something snide about how we didn't pay taxes on her street. The next day there was Schlage style retribution on her hood.

I know how helpless you are in this situation. Police can't do a darn thing without a witness. There shoud be a private circle in hell for keyers!

As long as the car is locked, so is the gas cap.

Try it on your own MINI...you'll see!

I understand how upset you must be. Unfortunately you have no proof she did it (although it sounds like she did).

I would take the insurance money but not have it repaired yet. The one thing you DO NOT want to happen is to fix it up and then have it keyed again. Most keying occurs in large public lots ... like malls. Or random acts with vandals going down residential streets vandalizing a bunch of cars.

If you fix it up now ... and its keyed again, your insurance company is not going to be very happy with you and you will be very upset.

If it were me, I would try to keep an eye on it for awhile or add one of those alarms with a perimeter alarm ... you get to close and it goes off. Only set the alarm when parked in that lot.

I wish you the best

Wow! That goes way beyond being upset over a parking spot.

I confess to being a very vindictive person. Woe be unto the hapless fool who would do that to my car!
List her in the obits and freak her out Or maybe a "moving sale - all must go" ad with her address? Or the old time favorite of phone # on local truckstop bathroom wall?

Thanks for the support guys!

I'll call my insurance tomorrow to get my car fixed ASAP. The only good side to that adventure is that a piece of wood hit my bonnet a few months ago while driving on the I95. I was going to get it fixed in 1 month as I was gathering money to get a bigger hoodscoop molded at the same time. I want a slightly bigger scoop to get more air into the Forge intercooler.

That old crazy woman has too much time in her hands. She likes to do stupid things. I was speaking with a guy who lives next door. He sold a new house and it was getting delivered last week. You know how it is sometimes tricky to install a mobile home in a tight spot... When they were about to deliver the 2nd module, she had parked her car across the steet ant left, making it very hard to move around... They had ot leave the 2nd half on the land and could not finish the delivery that day... She is just like that. She likes to be hated... i think bad karma will hit her soon but it won't be me. I don't fall into that stupid game... I really believe in the "what goes around comes around" saying and believe one day she will pay for all the bad things she had done.

btw, the police officer was really nice and liked the MINI. He asked if it was fast, but I was kind of shy to answer lol... He kept saying "Stupid people, such a nice car" lol

Not to be the lawyer here, but I know a lot of mobile home parks and condos have specific rules and regulations about guest parking. Guest parking is for guests only. I know when we lived in our condo we'd get warnings all the time just for parking in a guest spot to bring in our groceries.

I'm not saying that taking the law into your own hands is justified.

Are there any rules about parking in the guest spots at your place? I mean, there might be fines associated with violating the rules, which could add up to more than your MINI damage if you keep parking there. Or worse, you could get kicked out, right?

This is correct. Once you lock your MINI, it also locks the gas cap.

Suggesting fraud or malicious mischief is not cool. In fact, it is a violation of NAM's Site Guidelines:

5. LEGAL
Posts relating to street racing, excessive speeding, or violations of other laws are prohibited. If you want to race, take it to a legal venue.

(Pertinent phrase boldfaced and underlined.)

DarkMini,
That is a terrible shame. Some people have no respect.

My brother-in-law in Orlando is a French Canadian. I had no idea there were as many in FL as you stated.

Just a thought--have you talked to the park management? There may be others who have reported problems with her, or others with keyed cars that are not by her. Any clues there?

Sorry to hear that Dark MCS...
Be careful about talking or complaining to mgmt...You are in a 55+ community (It doesn't sound like you are 55+), so you may not be allowed to live there as per rules...(If this lady wants to be an even bigger beeotch, she may turn around and report you or something)
I say, shower her with niceness... when you see her, say hello to her... Send her flowers, that may even creep her out..
As Michael Corleone said
"Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer"

Ugh how terrible for someone to do that! Hopefully the visit from the police might scare her out of being so nasty again. Good luck getting your car fixed!

I realized this morning that she also tried to break the driver's side plastic fender (the only on the bonnet) Being weak and coward, she only broke the plastic clips holding it... But I had to buy another one because it was about to fall... At least it's a cheap part ($15)

I also did a compound on the scratches, but they are too deep to be effective. I only got to hide a few small ones.

People who resort to vandalism (especially when it's something expensive like getting a car repainted ) are losers. I'm really sorry to hear this happened to your car. I hope she "gets hers".

Ditto for the jerks who were shooting bbs at cars in Vegas.

Yeah...that's why I don't carry a gun day to day. Those crimes of passion would really mess up my freedom.

Just serve up that revenge nice and cold my friend.... good luck.
