Fitting '05/'06 seats to '02-'04 car

I've searched, but can't find the answer to this one. Please help if you know the answer.

I know that there is a difference in wiring or connectors for the 2005-2006 seats from the first few years. What exactly is the difference?

I have a 2002 MC with sport seats and am looking to replace the drivers seat with a non-sport seat, and it seems to be easier to find newer seats. What will I need to do to make the wiring work. There are 4 conectors on my 2002. I must have my heated seats, so assume any seat I find will be heated. I know one of the other connectors is Airbag, one is seat belt, but don't know what the 4th one is, nor do I know which one(s) are different from the early cars to the 05/06 model years.

Thanks.

I would say call Classic MINI parts dept (They are a NAM sponsor) and ask them about what you intend to do with the seat swap. I own a '02 MC with standard seats and a '05 MCS with sports seats but haven't really looked closely at any differences in terms of attachment points. Call Classic and have them look at the installation diagrams and perhaps they can tell you whether it is doable or not.

The difference is in the seatbelt lock wiring. The 05 seats have a different connector under the seat for the seatbelt lock [ what allows the car to know your not wearing your seatbelt!!] If your using a later production 05 passenger side seat, there will be an extra connector under the seat for the seat occupancy sensor - but your older version car does not use this connector, just tuck it out of the way. Swap the seatbelt buckles from original seats to the updated of seats and bolt the new ones in. [just be sure your do all this work with the key off, otherwise you will get airbag faults!!!]
