Best way to get to the Dragon (Driving from Indy to South Florida)

I will be driving from Indianpolis to South Florida in March. I am hoping to have time to take a detour to the Tail of the Dragon on my way. Is there a good way that will not add too much driving time to the overall trip?

Google maps says the best way for my normal trip is 65 south to Nashville, I-24 E to I-75 and I-75 all the way down.

Anyone have any input on taking I-75 from cincinnati to Knoxville? How close does that put you to the dragon?

Thanks,
khd

I'm not sure of the best route but I just looked at a map I got from staying at the Holiday Inn.

75 to Knoxville seems the best route. Once south of Knoxville 75 will have a few exits which lead to the dragon.

My brother is up there this weekend with temps being in the 60's. I've been in March with temps in the 70's. Though this time of year it's hard to tell a few weeks in advance.

75 is maybe an hour from the Dragon at most.

Go via Cincinnati to Knoxville and it's a very short detour to the Dragon once you get to the south side of Knoxville. If you're in a hurry you should run it and then come back to I-75, essentially getting to run it each way. Going on through Robbinsville and around to Atlanta adds some time.

Thanks for all the input. Is robbinsville the end of the dragon? Is there a city that right at the beginning that I can use to punch in Google maps?

Thanks,
K

If you have Google Earth you can get this file which I made as a map for MOTD. The direction you are going Tabcat Bridge will be the beginning of the dragon for you.
