I too am happy that I did not see a crunched MINI in this thread. It's good that Catastrophe came out of that (catastrophe?) relatively unscathed. I think for everyone to be harping on him is really a little insensitive.

Seeing as he is looking to get an internship with Mercedes I will assume he is relatively young and stupid like myself. I interned with a BMW/MINI dealership for a few years and know that it would be less than ideal to have points on my license.

I'm sure he will take some of the advice given in this thread but I think we all know that it is a lot harder to take someone elses advice than to learn one of these of these life lessons through first hand experience.

A personal example of my own, I had up until recently been a very fast driver, not unsafe, just fast. Everyone knows how nice the MINI cruises at higher speeds and the control you have. Of course that does not take into account all of the other drivers on the road. After being in a pretty serious rollover in my parents SUV while I was not speeding and taking it easy(not my fault, reckless driver tagged the right rear and shot me sideways/off the road at highway speed), my driving style in the MINI has become super cautious and slow. That is one of those things that I learned through a terrible experience.

Therefore, I am sure when Catastrophe is stuck in another similar situation, he will camp out at his friends or not go in the first place. He knows better now, he didn't know before. How else is he suppsed to learn?

Sorry, I was assuming that the friend may have had a window in his dwelling. I know, I know, you should never assume anything; it makes an *** out of ume.

I just can't get pass that you were doing 90 in a 65 and wanted to fight it. I speed all the time and when I get pulled over for stuff like that I figure if your going to speed this is what happends sometimes. You admit to breaking the law yet you want to fight it. I guess I just don't get it.

I guess I don't get the title either ...

How did a MINI save your life anymore than the 100s of other car makes on the road that day that were stuck in the backup? Did those car makes save those drivers lives?

Then you have a recessive personality
Im a fighter, Ill fight everything, even if its a hopeless fight, its in my nature.

In PA, you can get whats called a 31-11, it is a no points violation, but you have to go to court to ask for it. If your past record is good, the judge will usually allow for it. And there is always the off chance the officer does not show up, in which case it will be dismissed.

It "toughened" out with you? But so did the Mustangs and Prius and Corollas and Accords. The MINI did nothing "special" to "save your life"

Sorry, I am not trying to demean your experience in any way. You had a tough time and are trying to relate your story. Good story by the way.

Its only the title of the thread is a bit misleading.

There was a thread last summer where someone got a flat in Death Valley. In that case, the RFs "might" have saved his life or at least made it a lot easier for him to get back to civilization. That is why when someone reads the title its like ... Wow! What did the car actually do to save your life

Its called a time table. look, people, if you want to ask stupid questions, do it somewhere else. This is getting tiring answering all of these idoitic questions by people who *think* they are all knowing

Yes, I should have not gone, Ill admit that, but it was a story in where if I was in any other car I own, I probably would still have been stuck on 81 till I got towed out.

And I had not drank any water in a long time, you have no idea what its like to go without water for over a day and a half, and would have been towards two and a half days at the rate everything was going. Death sets in around 3 days of dehydration (rule of threes, three minutes without air, three days without water, three weeks without food) There were many abandoned cars on the highway side for this reason. Havent you ever seen a mining disaster on the news?

Sheesh, people

No, those were on the side of the road abandoned. Mostly AWD Volvos, Subies, The montego infront of me when I was parked, or 4WD trucks and jeeps, or, like 90% of the vehicles out there, Semi Trucks

This is getting funny.

Dude just stop answering the so called stupid questions. Everyone is picking apart your story and it is making you upset. Every time we all post that is chance we take.

It was a bad storm but I think people are looking more at it like "why were you out there in the first place". And death was probaby nowhere near you yet. The reality is that most are not taking your story in the way you wished it.

If you owned a Diesel you would still be idling with half a tank full.

Man, I was expecting a crunched MINI picture. Glad to hear it was just a looooong day and night.
My MINI has saved my life too - from the monotony of SU-damned-V's.
:-)

I was out there because I had to be. I should have brought water with me, my kidneys arent very strong (kidney stones). And guess what, lots of people took it in a non "change the attention to me because Im just gonna make fun of you" way
