OK, I'll get you started...

My 2006 MC has 227 miles on it.

Has anyone else put more miles on their Mini?

dogdal24 is on top with 15,512, can you top that???

Thanks.

C'mon, folks...it's an easy question that you ALL know the answer to:

The current high miles Mini is:

dogdal24 with 15,512

You gotta have more than that to beat his post.

I'm over 100,000 miles, but on my third transmission. The old 5-speed in the Cooper has issues with extreme cold and I live in northern Vermont.

Who has over 100,000?

We're stuck at 100,000, and that's with 3 trannies.

I have an 05 with 72K. Still on the original engine, tranny, etc... Many mods, but the only thing replaced due to failure was an O2 sensor at 49K and the hydraulic motor mount at 70K.

So tell us please, what happened to the first two transmissions and at what mileages? Thanks.

Yeah, I want to know how much longer I've got on my 03 MC before the tranny craps out.

I wonder if any kind of pre-emptive actions can be done, such as Red Line or Royal Purple transmission fluid..if that would help?

Sorry about the thread hijack, 100,000 and 3 trannies still leads.

The early Cooper 5-speed, made by Midlands, has a seal that doesn't hold up to extreme cold temperatures. I'm talking well below zero fahrenheit, like -20° or colder. When it gets that cold, the seal fails, the transmission fluid leaks out, and the transmission fails. It has nothing to do with miles on the car, driving style, or anything else. Just extreme cold. That's how both of my transmissions failed.

The first one was in the first winter I owned the car. I forget how many miles, but I picked up the car in October and the first failure was in February / March or something like that. The second failure was 2 years later. I was over miles on the warranty, but within 2 years of the replacement part going in (by a few weeks), so the second replacement was covered under the 2-year replacement part warranty. That was two winters ago, so it better either get cold soon, or stay warm or I'm out of luck.

I was told that the second replacement I got had a resdesigned seal that was less susceptible to cold weather problems.

And I know personally at least two cars with more miles than mine - and we all take our cars to the track. NHRef has around 107,000 miles like me, and dkstone (I think that's him) has over 150,000 miles on his car.

OK, we're at 129,000. Is that all? Do we name xsmini the winner?

No one higher than 129,000?

Tranny?

Sorry for hijacking again, but with me owning an 03/04 build date Cooper has me concerned now. Living in Cleveland, there is always the possibility of 0 degree weather. Has anyone out there with an 04 Cooper Midlands 5-speed model had to replace their tranny? I would appreciate any input as I just turned over 45000 at the turn of the year and I now wonder if I need Classic MINI to look at or what before the warranty is up. Cheers!

search for something like

cold midlands

and you'll get the matches...

Here are some:

0° should not cause any problems. Extreme cold weather, -20° or colder, seems the be the culprit.
