R50/53 BMW's Lease/Purchase Program-Who used it?

Hey All,
When I bought my Mini on 09/02, the finance guy talked me into a financial package that got my payment down lower, but obligated me to trade or refinance in 3.5 years. The program is through BMW financial services. I know it sounds like a lease, but he assured me it was not. In essence, at the end of my "payment period", I can trade for another and be guaranteed somewhere around $11,500 as a trade-in value, or I can refinance the remaining value of the car, and keep it. I am curious to see if any of the rest of you used this. I know many of our "fold" paid $ for their MInis, and I can appreciate that ability, but I've never been able to do that. Your responses are appreciated!
