Good reason to get an iPod Adaptor or Aux Jack

I'm on my way to work the other morning, and listening to the radio.

Suddenly different music begins to take over my radio station as I come to a stop sign. At first I think I've got some interference from another station, as that happens once in awhile (though the FCC frowns on that).

As I leave the stop sign, the music returns to my selected station. I come to another stop, and the previous interfearence returns, and now I notice the same PU behind me from the previous sound incident. As I put a little distance between us, I get my music back. As he closes up, other music takes over.

You guessed it. He's got an iPod transmitter instead of a direct connection. Talk about broadcasting without a license! That transmitter must have had a radius of about 20 yards at least.

Once I hit the freeway, I put him and his music behind.

My husband has a FM-transmitted Sirius unit in his Yukon. One day we were out front detailing the MINI and his Jeep, and he turned on the Jeep's stereo...and Howard Stern came out.

My husband, not being so tech-minded, exclaimed that someone must have hijacked the frequency (I got a good laugh out of this). I climbed in his Yukon and turned off the Sirius unit and it stopped. So then, just to see how far it went, we went into the house and turned on the tuner to the same station, and yep, we got Sirius in the house too.

Strong signals on those things!

Didn't know satellite radio could do that too. While I like both classical and jazz, I don't care for one drowning out the other when I'm in the mood for just one of them!

Put the XM direct (or sirius if you must... ) in your car and you'll have no need of the FM portion of the stereo again... I basically use the XM (quick simple plug and play for a direct connection w/o modulators), the AM traffic when appropriate, and the CD/Aux for my cds and/or ipod... and soon for my GPS/MP3 stuff (coming Christmas day... )

Not to mention that those FM modulators take decent digital music that you paid for and make it sound worse than crappy FM radio.
