R50/53 My Real World MPG
my 06 S obc reads my mpg at 29.7 - 30.1 (70%/30% : hwy/surface) for 2 weeks now. odometer is at 3300 miles now.
mods: K&N Typhoon, Alta Diverter, m7 15% & 2% pulleys, m7 OCC, m7 thermostat, Shoe Engine Damper, and my favorite TORNADO.
used to get 27mpg and now steady at 29.7 - 30.1 mpg. DAMN HAPPY RIGHT NOW. my last tank did 384 miles, almost 400 on my S. drove it 3000 - 3500rpm.

I've never taken the time to actually figure out what my MPG was with any other car I've owned, so this is something new. And it does only take another 15 seconds! A lot of my driving is spent in "lovely" Southern California traffic. Maybe that's why my numbers are so low. I plan on keeping this chart up so I'll see if anything changes as the motor continues to "break-in". Time and mileage will tell...

First four tank results with probably 40% highway and 60% city:
Tank1: 26mpg (dealer fuel; don't know the AKI)
Strictly 87AKI:
Tank2: 28.6mpg
Tank3: 26.5mpg
Tank4: 28.6mpg
...and the break-in period is over!

My 350 ci 300+ HP car gets better mileage than that.
. good luck

I have an '06 MCSa, about 7500 miles, took delivery 8/23.
I have an on-site computer services business so I drive a lot and a good mix between freeway/city.
Before any signifcant mods, I was in the 21-23 mpg range. The OBC was always higher.
Now I have a 15% pulley. A few days later got new tires/wheels - non-run flat, 215/40/17s.
My last three tanks averages 23.5 mpg. Have an Alta intake on the way.
Would have like to known what just the pulley did.
I know that the more freeway miles the better the mileage (as many already know). More aggressive driving takes it WAY down.
Not sure about the tires/wheels. But not having run flats is SWEEEEET!!!

Before I got my MCS I too was all concerned about what sort of mileage I would get, and convinced myself that I would get much better than all the posts, because I would drive it sanely and slowly and keep the revs down, yadda, yadda, yadda...
Now that I have my little darling.... to hell with all that thinking..... driving an MCS and keeping the revs below 3500 is like having a date with Cindy Crawford and only kissing her hand goodnight.
I'm 58, just how many good years do I have?????
I'm gonna rev that puppy and enjoy what time I have left. I don't drink much, don't do drugs, don't have a girlfriend on the side (I know, I hear you "YD must be a pretty boring dude", and I am), so spending a little more money on gas is the price of my pleasure.
But to answer your original question (you thought I'd never quit rambling, I know), I drive at what I consider pretty hard and I get by calcs in the 26-27 range consistently. I think what helps my mileage is that when I'm in slow traffic and just can't do anything about it, I just pop into sixth and idle along until the traffic clears.
I'm YD and I approve this message.

For that avg speed, I'd say your mpg is about right. Nothing like stop and go/slow to take your mpg down.
You can pretty much watch it drop on the OBC when you're stuck.
YD: Love your attitude about life, motoring and mpg. It reminds me that I DID NOT buy a MINI for good mpg! When folks as me about it, I tell them: 'It's not a economy car, it's a performance car!"

ditto, and 18k.
I've found a significant difference in mpg when driving modestly under 3k rpms - like 7-8 mpg!!!

I had a 1,250 mile trip this week.
The first half outgoing, I was on roads with limits of 60 and 65mph.
I averaged just over 40 for that portion of the trip, by the time I was finished one way at about 625 miles - I was down to just over 34. This was due mostly to traffice problems and stop and go due to snow all over the road and numberous accidents.
Different route coming back, I was on 65 and 70 limits almost exclusively and the trip average dropped down to just over 30.
When I'm in town for an entire week I end up around 25, if I drive it easy it stays closer to 27. I did not however, purchase the MCS to take it easy.

My first tank on my drive Thursday, I ran just over 450 miles before refueling.
I ran much better running BP 93 on the first two tanks, I was running off-brand 91 and 92 on the way home. You take what you get when you're on the road.

Well to be honest I am happy with anything in the double digit area. I have 909 mile and have used 3 tanks in 3 weeks. That works out to a little over 22 MPG, I am not complaining at all. I used to fill up 3 times a week, and with a tank double the size in my MCSa.
So that is great. I drive a mix also.

I have a 02 MC and it's pretty good on gas mileage. Getting about 32 to 34 mpg except the one time I went to Branson and got stuck on those hills with all of those stoplights! If I recall correctly, I got only 27 mpg on that trip.
I've had a '06 MCSa since May. I have been manually checking and recording mpg since June.
Results for 3734 miles are 18.1 MPG.
My average speed comes in at about 23 mph.
I consider this reasonable since a lot of my travel is stop and go in San Francisco.
Better than my '98 M3 which got 12 mpg in the city.

I have had my 06 MC for 11 months & done just over 18k miles
Mostly city driving, I average 27. Mixed I average about 32.
Highway, best I've averaged is 38.
I wish I could drive more fuel efficiently.
Oh DC traffic...How I love thee............NOT

This is disappointing! lol I have had my MC for just over a month, put 4000 miles on it and if I drive nicely (3100-3400RPMs @ 70-75MPH), I get in the high 29's. That's nearly ALL highway, 140 miles each way. The gas light comes on around 320-330 miles on the trip meter. Maybe I need to slow down even more! Yea... NO!
Best highway - 30MPG (straight highway, avg 3500RPMS)
Normal Highway - 29MPG (straight highway, avg 3300RPMS)
Mix - 25MPG
Is that normal for an MC?

If you're driving at 70-75, you're enjoying the road, but you don't qualify for the "thrifty max MPG" club <grin>.
If you drop that speed to 60MPH, I'll bet you improve by 15%, which, in this case, means going to 34/35 mph. Also, use your cruise control - really helps.
