R50/53 Brakes!
Brakes!
This is a highly opinionated subject, but I need to get some advice. I want to increase the stopping power of the brakes on my car. I know this is the wrong forum for this question, but I want to get these ordered and done with, and there's hardly ever any action in the wheels, tires, and brakes forum
.
Randy from M7 recommended the Ferrodo 2500 pads, but I know very little about them. I know common choices are as follows:
Axxis Ultimates: Had these on another car, I liked them alot, but they only last 8-10k miles!
Mintex Redbox: Quality on these over the years has gone down a lot, I don't think I would even consider using these
EBC Greenstuff: I don't think these have the stopping power i'm looking for, besides the fact that I have little interest in bright green brake pads
Hawk HPS: Most people love these, Steve from Steves auto clinic says he doesn't like these
Heres what I need for the pad...
1) It has to last, I don't mind replacing it after 18-20k miles, it doesn't have to last to 60k miles, but I don't want to be replacing brake pads every 6 months
2) It has to be a LOT better than stock! Both in fade resistance, and in stopping power
3) Quiet, I don't want pads that sound like a howling banshee on crack every time I stop
.
4) Dust, this is last on the list, it's not a huge factor in my decision. I certainly don't want MORE than stock, less would be nice, but if it's pretty much the same as stock it's ok.
Thanks for the opinions!

I have EBCs on the rear and I have problems with rear brake bias, even with a Wilwood 12.2" kit on the front. Whether that's a problem with the front brakes or too much bite out back is to be determined but they DO bite hard.
What about fade though? And I still can't get off the fact that they're bright friggin green. You could see those from 9 miles away on my car... just looks tacky imho.
I"ve used
stock
EBC green
EBC red
Federo 2500
The Federos stop the best. They need a little bit of heat, and they will make a bit of noise when you come to a complete stop, especially when cold. They do throw off dust.
EBC red was OK, but I won't go there again.
EBC green was a very good pad. It's Kevlar based, so both dust and rotor wear are down significantly.
Who cares what color the pad is. After a month, they are all brake dust colored!
The EBC greens gave me some fade on the track. But the metal caliper bushings improved that significantly. No matter what you choose, get the metal bushings if you stay with stock calipers. They will keep the caliper in better alignment, this will promote more even wear, and more even pad temps.
I actually liked the stockers feel on the street, but they do put out a lot of dust, and this only gets worse on the track.
I've never driven Hawk HP or HPS.

That's just my experience.....
I'm sure others have different perspectives as well. I'm an agressive street driver, but not has hard on cars on the track as others due to my skill level (or lack thereof)!
