Countdown to d'Mini's return
Two days ago, I made my usual weekly visit to the body shop to check on progress. They were getting d'Mini back together, but what had been painted (inside of door and right side of engine bay) weren't the right color
and they were reassembling the door. I pointed out the paint clor mismatch and was told they would take care of it. Since then I have been steeling myself for my first confrontation with them, preparing to argue why it is important that the paint in these areas match, even though they aren't visible when the car is closed up. I went to the shop again today, ready to have my say. As soon as I walked in, the Owner said "your paint problem is taken care of".
Not one to EVER enjoy confrontation, this was a huge relief. They say I should be getting him back next week.
It was.

days and counting. Stopped by the shop yesterday afternoon and had a holiday brew with Lyle and the guys. My car is painted, but since the color wasn't a perfect match to the original (slightly lighter, but I do like it), they have to paint the rest. Also the part they got for the roof was wrong, and the other one won't be here until the 26th. But it is getting close. The wait is really hard, but I am happy with the job I am getting, so it is worth it.

I'm having sympathy pains for you...
We just went without one of our cars for about 7 weeks of collision repair (luckily not the MINI) - so I can relate.
Sounds like there's light at the end of the tunnel...

I went by the shop Tuesday and they were getting ready to paint the last parts (tailgate & new front bumper). I had the brilliant
idea to ask if they could spray the intercooler cover while they were at it. Today I went by again, hoping they didn't forget. It is BRG now - looks awesome
. I said something to the Owner of the shop about how I wanted to to paint the little S red. He wallked over to a can of parts, got the S they had taken off the tailgate, and checked......same size
. He said they would put it on for me.
The part for the roof is in and there is a fair chance it will be done tomorrow. This is might be more exciting than when I first got the car.

Best of luck, Davavd! I know it must be hard for you to wait. We finally got Sgt Pepper home last Friday, and he now has nearly 1000 miles! Suffice to say, I just love it!!! Even my wife who is a " 'fraidy cat" has tried some "faster than normal" corners! Please be careful when you get back on the road. We all have to watch out more than ever with such a "small" car! lol
Hey Davavd
Glad to hear your ordeal is coming to an end. Sounds like you have made the most of it by doing a little customization. Now that's a positive attitude! And like the guy on Hill Street Blues used to say..."hey...let's be careful out there"
