Why 91?

Ok I was sitting at a light after not hooking up my seat belt and decided to count the annoying chimes my mini makes when I choose to not hook up the seat belt in a car I paid for. The thing I dont get is whay 91? Why not 10,25,50 or an even 100. It chimes exactly 91 times. I thought I would try it again and sure enough 91 chimes.

Hope you have a flame suit on.

Perhaps its a time count not a chime count that dictated the programming?

Hell DSA, you're in Texas. Just pull out your gun and shoot it at some even number.

P.S. You're either incredibly tolerant, or have OCD, or both. I'd have gone nuts well before 91 chimes.
P.P.S. Must have been a LOOOOONG light.:impatient

Let me be the first to say (since someone will)... I hope that you typically wear the seat belt when not testing the number of dings.

I didn't think it ever stopped, but I've never had the patience to wait that long either. If it was based on a count, I'd have expected it to be 2 raised to a power then subtract 1, such as (2^4)-1=15, or (2^5)-1=31.

I drive my MINI quite a bit at our local Sporting Clay Range to test/inspect machines, etc. It's a couple of miles of gravel roads up and down and up and down the mountain and I make about 30 stops...I don't want to mess with the belt that many times. Besides, I'm cruising at the blistering pace of 4 mph and the land is owned by a good friend of mine. If I wasn't in and out of the car, that damn racket would drive me batty.

Out on the streets, I wear my seat belts because I think it is a good idea to do so. Even so, I don't like the seatbelt dinger. I wish it would SHUT UP after 2 or 3 seconds like they did a few years ago. On some older cars, it was a separate noisemaker that could be easily found and unplugged.

It REALLY gets annoying when loading up a wheelchair bound person (and all their equipment) during bad weather.

It is a dealer programmable option that you can have turned off if you want.

you could just disconnect the sensor on the thing that the seat belt clicks in to.

I thought there was a thread (at least a year ago) along these lines. I thought that this feature was a legal issue and while you can probably find a way to override it, I didn't think the dealer had that option.

Anyway, it drives me nuts, but yes it does eventually stop. No, I'm not driving around without a seat belt, I discovered this in my driveway. My driveway is 1200 feet long, and I drive my daughter to the end every morning to wait for the bus (kind of an isolated bus stop, I'm a worry wart, what can I say ). When we get to the end of the driveway, she unsnaps her seatbelt in order to get ready to jump out when the bus arrives.
She and I have tried a few times to count the dings to see if we get to the end before her bus comes, but it hasn't happened yet. In the rush to get out of the car and get the back pack out of the boot, I always lose count.
Thanks for the count, I can finally relax!

Annette

Mine doesn't ding for the seatbelt. There is a light on the dash (in the speedo) to remind me, but no dings. I get a never-ending series of dings if the key is close enough to (or still in) the ignition when I open the door with the engine off.

The number of chimes was determined by the engineers to be the point that 99.2% of MINI drivers would stop counting how many times the chimer would chime. If you had waited 10 more seconds, you would have heard another chime, which when played backward gives you the code to disable the engine speed limiter.

It's a Druid - Stonehenge thing -

Adding the numbers one through thirteen gives 91, the number of days in a season.

No no, you bimbo, its based on this equation

X|X < -2 +/- 2^Mini/number of times youve taken a curve just a lil too fast

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

# of people in manhattan on a century basis * The number of shots you had on your 21st bday

= y

I lied. Mine dings 10 times too. I guess I just tune it out. Not very effective. That must be why they increased the number. And if I unbuckle the belt while the car is running, no dings occur.

My car doesn't ding. If it did, I'd probably punch it in the face.

91 times.
