Car Cover - Testimonials?

Okay, so next semster I can bring my Baby up here to school.

Heres the sucky news, it will sit in the parking lot here at school... in an open parking lot

So! Anyone got experience with a HEAVY DUTY, and I mean HEAVY!!! DUTY!!!, car cover? There will be a LOT of snow on it, and my school isnt shy about salt (they suck).

So, show me what you got out there What is the best most durable brand that could handle the elements in NorthCentral Pennsylvania?

TIA

I live in Pennsylvania, in the suburbs near Philadelphia. I have used various car covers in the past. But ever since I started buying BMWs, I stopped using them. My Z4 roadster has sat out in the elements for 3+ years with no cover, and it's my only car so I drove it through all the snow and salt that's out there - with no problems. And my MCSc will be treated the same way. So I offer the simplest advice of all - don't cover the car.

Your car is made to handle the elements. Snow sitting on it will not hurt it. Removing the snow improperly might scratch the paint - but so could a car cover that isn't properly maintained.

Keep in mind that a GOOD outdoor car cover is not too heavy. It must be designed to allow moisture already on or under the car to escape, so that it doesn't get stuck on your car, which is a bad thing. You are generally supposed to install the cover when the cover is dry and the car is dry. That's tough to do when it's icy and snowy. If you install a somewhat wet cover on a wet car, and it's freezing out, the cover might well be frozen to the car when you try to leave.

The only time I see a car cover as being of value is when the car will sit for a long time outside and you need to protect it from dust and bird droppings and sap. If the car is just outside for a few hours, it's not worth it.

Anyway, those are my 2 cents. But if you really want a cover, I'd get a MINI brand. I'd trust BMW's design.

The thing about ANY car cover, is that moisture will get between the cover and the car. Doesn't do the finish a lot of good.

I only use my cover in the hot months to keep the dust and bird crap off.
