Huh, I thought driving lights was a good guess. Did you buy your car new?

You've had it for 2 years and you still don't know? I know what it's for, but you've past your one year period of free answers. So, it'll be $50 before you get an answer.

Joking, sorry .

Not to sound like a smart alek, but I think the answer to your question is "nothing". Obvioulsy it was/is intended to do something. From the pic, it's hard to make out the icon on the button. I don't think it's something that all MINIs have.

I'd still guess driving lights as it's too obvious of a place for a kill switch. The good news is that whatever it is, it looks like at least half of the work/installation is done.

I agree with whataricky. It looks just like the driving light switch the dealer installed on my 06, they must have left it after you changed your mind

well.........if you ordered Driving Lights and then cancelled "halfway through the build" it's a pretty good guess that the switch was installed on the line for the lights. Also the Pictograph on the switch sure looks like that is what it is for.

Believe me - this is the switch for driving lights. I have driving lights and had to move that switch from the solid bolster (in your photo) to the faceplate designed for that switch in the parcel shelf when I installed it. I paid great attention to that button making sure that my relocation was successful.

NOW - as to the little red light to the right of the driving light switch, I have no friggin idea....

Bill

ps - when you turn on the driving lights, there is another part of this switch that lights up (other than the general "night driving glow". I am guessing you can't make that happen since the circuit is not being completed....

I installed one today

I installed one today - that's the driving light switch 4 sure (altho I don't know what the little LED by itself is).

You could have saved us half an hour if we'd swapped panels. That's about how long it took to cut the hole for the switch in an untouched panel.

BTW MINI/BMW .... if you are going to charge $400 for the light kit, would it be too much to ask that you toss in some instructions....especially a wiring diagram? I had to find a car with the factory kit in it and trace everything. Or was this box a mistake??? (not mine - I was doing a favor ... I would have returned the kit - the hella kit is easier to install)

OP - I'd look around under the bonnet insul' cuz sounds like everything is wired for driving lights. If so, pick up a set of Hellas (or anything you like) and all you need to do is install the brackets, mount the lights and connect 4 wires.... If the indicator LED is lighting it sounds like the harness was installed. You could pop the knee panel and see if the wires to the switch lead to a big relay....they must else the switch would be getting no power)

And since I'm on a roll and LOVE to stir up doodoo - I can't say I've ever seen anyone USE the driving lights. People usually keep cool covers on them. Seems like there might be a market for brackets and light housings with covers - forget the wires - just get the 'look'.

The little led light next to it is my viper alarm. I have the car wired like crazy so if anything or anyone touches it... the alarm goes off. Too bad i dont like the look of the driving lights other wise i would install them.

That's what you get for telling them to stop half way through.

I never understood why the switch wasn't up on the toggle bank with the rest of the lights (fogs). Not that I have driving lights so it doesn't matter. But, seems to me that the traction control switch should be by itself somewhere instead of in the toggle bank, perhaps near the parking brake where the flat reset button is, and that the driving lamp switch should be in its spot on the toggle bank.
